I was honestly hoping they would add 2 new species and also enough new villagers to merit another series of amiibo cards. I would have loved amiibo cards of all the new villagers and NPCs.. But since there aren't that many.. I doubt they'll release another series T_T But yeah.. It's weird they only added 8, plus no new species, and no new personalities.. I'm hoping they'll be included in some update in the future.. It just doesn't make sense that that's all they're giving us. New Leaf got +2 personalities and +2 species.. Soo *fingers crossed* for those updates!
Not really. I quite like all the new ones we did get and there are already so many villagers to begin with. I thought I knew all of the old ones but since I never really played the original GC game or New Leaf after the welcome amiibo update a lot of the old villagers feel new to me. With over a few hundred villagers 8 new ones is fine by me.
I would have liked two new personalities so we didn't have to have duplicates. Since there are no new personalities I don't really need more villagers. I have a ton to choose from already.
I at first read the topic as "that many villagers" rather than "that many new villagers" and was thinking "ummm.. but we have over 400!?". I don't mind that there's not a bunch of new ones. I don't see this as a Pokemon game where I'm expecting a bunch of new ones with each title, even if animal crossing comes about once every 10 years and pokemon every year or two. 400 villagers is more than enough for me to enjoy each new game, even if they never release new characters again, the games themselves are enjoyable enough that I'm not bothered
Then again, though I played NL, I wasn't familiar with most of the villagers outside of the ones in my town. I've sort of gone through "studying" the villagers listed on the AC wiki but I'm still surprised by villagers I see when I see them.
However, I think it would be neat to see new villagers released through free DLC. Especially if that meant we could have more than the 10 villager cap. Even if it were just one or two. Having more villagers makes the island seem like a real community.
Not new ones, but bringing back ones that didn’t make it pass GCN would have been nice. Could see that as a future DLC. It’s been 16 years, I’d love to see my old friends again.
I personally don't mind that we didn't get more new villagers introduced. While I'm always game for more to be included, especially because one of my unrealistic dreams is to have a robot version of each species like Ribbot and Sprocket, the amount of villagers we have to choose from is already fairly large. There are so many villagers who I liked and wanted to have, I ended up with numerous New Leaf towns and still couldn't fit all of them because of the 10 villager limit. Even with New Horizons, which I intended to use as an excuse to adopt villagers who didn't fit into my New Leaf towns for one reason or another (like them not fitting any of the themes I based my towns around), there are still some who I won't be able to acquire this time and thus haven't had their chance.
I personally feel like there are so many villagers already that it’s not necessary. Look at Pokémon, for example. There are way too many of them and you can see the decline in creativity for each design. For me, it’s quality over quantity. I wasn’t super impressed with the new villagers. I mean, Raymond’s different colored eyes are super cool but I will not fork over my left kidney‘s value in NMT for him like some people on here.
I‘m trying very hard to have different villagers in NH than I did in NL for that reason. They’re new to me.
I wouldn't be surprised if they added more in the future, seems like a really simply way to keep the engagement up for years to come, which is their plan after all.
Speaking of, the fact that we don't have any capybara NPC's is a crime against humanity! It would make so much sense, especially considering it's a japanese game and japan has their capybara spas and all that. I still can't wrap my head around that.
