Anyone else miss SwapNote / Letter Box?

I know I do. I just got a notification telling me that I got a letter. I was expecting the Spotpass feature to return, since I got the notification straight after I updated the 3DS. Excited, I opened up the app just to find out that it was a StreetPass message.

It was neat sending messages to friends, family and other people on TBT. Not to mention people got pretty creative with it. I miss it and wish a feature like it would return, because 3DS and Wii U need a messaging system like PS3/PS4/PS Vita/Xbox 360/Xbox One/PC. :/ Having to rely on outside sources to communicate is a drag and impromptu gaming session non-existent unless you both get the same idea.

people used to do comics on it i guess, that's kinda the only reason i liked it. but i still miss it.

It wasn't just a claim. There was a big news story in Japan about two or three dudes using the software to obtain nude photos from an underaged girl after exchanging friend codes online. The men were caught, and in order to protect the company and to prevent further shady business being done through SwapNote, they took down the service.

I rarely used it so there's nothing to miss. Friends would send me notes and I would send something back but that was it.

I never particularly cared for it. I guess I could see how it'd be useful for some people, but all of the friends I had on my 3DS I knew in real life so I didn't need something like that to talk to them. Even then I would just text or message them on Facebook or something. I miss Pictochat more to be honest, even though it was super basic. Those were the good ol' days.

Yeah, it was pretty nice to like be able to actually talk on 3ds

And I have a friend from a different country and he would always send me like cute doodles and good morning notes. It was pretty sweet.

While I think it's terrible what happened with the photos, I don't think it's really Nintendo's fault or responsibility, nor do I think the spotpass feature should have been disabled because of it. You needed to register each other's friend codes to be able to send notes via spotpass, which is very similar to exchanging phone numbers or adding each other on social media sites. I know Nintendo has a reputation to maintain but it just seems unfair that one unfortunate incident, that probably would have happened another way anyway if Swapnote didn't ever exist, has to ruin a feature that many people were enjoying and using responsibly.

I miss being able to communicate with my 3DS friends outside New Leaf, which a lot of them don't play much anymore. Ah well, Nintendo is what it is. What can you do? (When you enjoy the kinds of games I do, haha)

Also, all the coins I spend on the different notes >.< *sigh*

It leaves a bitter taste in my mouth that Nintendo chose to punish everyone for something a few people did. Idk, it makes me feel like a child.
I never did attach any photos of my self to any of my notes. They could've just removed that feature.

Yeah I miss the letter box, sending drawings and photos to friends was a lot of fun and a quick and fun way to keep in touch. I thought they'd of brought it back with an updated 'safer' version by now tbh, it's been gone for flippin' ages.

They didn't do it to punish anybody, I imagine they did it because they didn't want to be responsible and after what happened you'd almost have to shut it down to appease people.

But I agree, they should've just simplified it so it couldn't be abused. Couldn't be bothered, I guess.

I personally never used it so no, I don't miss it.

I miss it too. I didn't use it much but when I did it was pretty cool. At least you have Miiverse though, which kinda sucks, but it's better than nothing... right?
