I certainly have! Other M was alright, I can see why people wouldn't like it but I think the game play is very solid! Of course, it's also been a few years since I've last played that so if played now my opinion could have changed greatly!!

DAMNIT Nintendo! Come out w/ another Metroid already, JEEZ!!!!

I think they released the Wii trilogy on WiiU as sort of an amuse bouche to get us prepared for either a WiiU or 3DS release. They talked a now canceled 3DS one some time ago, but there's been a bit of talk recently about studios who'd enjoy taking on the project, and I also think there might have been some new patents or whatever related to a new Metroid game recently for 3DS that was unrelated to the canceled project. I'd prefer a WiiU release though... more chance of it being a 3D world than a 2D world.

And by getting us prepared, I mean more like it's a slim possibility they'd mention it's in the works at E3 2015, but we won't see it until late '16 or during '17.

As long as it's not another Prime game or some abomination like Other M. If they're not gonna release a follow up to Metroid Fusion they might as well just bury the whole franchise all together.
I hate seeing what Nintendo has done to Samus these last years, turning her into nothing more than some fan service.
She used to be the best... </3

I don't think there's room for Samus any more, sadly, other than as a (small) part of the Smash Bros-series.

I wouldn't mind a new game. Metroid doesn't usually get many releases, so I always hope for at least one per console gen. I expect that we will get one, though it wouldn't surprise me if we skipped a generation like with the N64/GBC since Other M didn't go down well with fans (though, I kinda liked it)

Whether I would want an FPS or a 2.5D 'Metroidvania' though is a tough question. I think I would rather see a 2.5D game since the closest we've seen to that since the GBA is 'Other M', and it's a game design that I do like but is rarely used (and even more rarely done well).

Whether 3DS or Wii U...Well...Wii U would look better so I'm always going to want games on there, but I wouldn't be disappointed if a 2.5D got released on 3DS.

Metroid is boring. Put a lid on that series.

can someone please explain to me why everyone thinks metroid is a neglected franchise? yes, the last metroid game was 5 years ago, but there was a bigger gap of 8 years from super metroid to metroid prime AND fusion at the same time, but no one really whined back then though to be fair the internet was in its infancy then so if whining did happen it wasnt widespread. plus theres been prime 2 and 3 as well as the trilogy, metroid zero mission for gba and hunters on the ds.

like n64king said, i believe the trilogy released as digital download is to either prepare fore a new game coming, or to gauge interest to see if theres a big enough audience for the franchise still to justify a new game, cause despite a lot of complaining for a new game, metroid really doesnt sell all that well.

ive tried my hand at the franchise; i couldnt get into it much as i tried to. i honestly think there'll be a metroid game this generation but i really wish people would stop acting like the franchise has been given terrible treatment.

I think many other Nintendo franchises get a lot more love than Metroid so yeah I do feel it's a bit neglected.:p In any case I'd like to see both a full-on 3D FPS(a la Prime series) as well as a sidescrolling one. Though, I'd be happy w/ a release in general!!:)

I played Super, Fusion, and Zero Mission before Prime Trilogy came out on the eShop, but wow, it's great! Super Metroid was the only game I beat before buying the trilogy and beating the first game and starting the second. Other M does look a little... eh..., but another game like Prime would be great! I'd honestly be fine with another full 2D game (2.5D would be all the better!) since I didn't play Super Metroid until that came onto the Wii U eShop and it felt like a full game even for today's standards.

I really need a Metroid game right now. But I'm not really sure what I want. side scroller would be good but if it's on wiiU then i'd rather see something else. I want Nintendo to surprise me with something good like how they do it with zelda games and any other game they develop. Sure a normal guy would say "It's all the same game", but there are actually little things nintendo adds everytime that makes a huge difference.

Duuuude, ever since I saw SomecallmeJohnny's reviews of the Metroid games that pretty much got me invigorated into the Metroid series after I dropped the series when I was a little kid playing Metroid Prime.

I'm craving for another Prime game, Retro just make it happen.

I don't think it's really a neglected series (other than the N64/GBC where we saw nothing of it outside of Smash Bros) but it's easily among the 'big names' that Nintendo has that doesn't get as much love as it deserves.

I mean, we see Mario and Donkey Kong literally all the time, whether it's in their own platformers or in some multiplayer game, we see them waaaaay too much. The Legend of Zelda is not far behind with 4 Zelda titles released so far on this gen of consoles, 1 incoming and a few obvious cameo's in other games. We'll not talk about Pokemon...Animal Crossing and Fire Emblem are quickly becoming their new franchise to milk.

To be honest, if we didn't see so much of their other characters like Mario and Link plastered over almost everything, Metroid probably wouldn't seem as few and far between as we view it. Hell, just throw Samus and Captain Falcon into a few more games as a playable character and we'll be happy that we've at least seen the character regularly...Which is why I think 'Mario does thing' games should be rebranded as 'Nintendo All-Stars' so that we can see some more damn variety.

nintendo franchises can be divided into 3 tiers. the top tier is mario, zelda, and pokemon; franchises that even if youve never played a game in your life odds are you've still heard of these. metroid (along with kirby, star fox, and animal crossing to name a few) are mid tier; franchises known and loved in the gaming community but not the general populace as a whole. finally theres the low tier franchises (examples of pikmin, fire emblem, and earthbound); franchises only big nintendo fans will recognize and likely the only ones who will give the game a chance.

i understand there are people who really love this franchise and want to see more of it, and theres nothing wrong with that, but some people act like because the franchise doesnt get a game every single year that nintendo has somehow "given up" on the franchise or are "turning their backs on fans" when they really havent. like i said earlier its been 5 years since the last metroid game, but you know else has had a 5 year gap? links awakening and ocarina of time (1993-1998) and you know what else? elder scrolls oblivion to skyrim (2006-2011) and you know what else? city folk to new leaf (2008-2013 for america and europe) and you know what ELSE? xenoblade (for japan anyway) and xenoblade x (2010-2015) the point im trying to make is 5 years really isnt all that long in terms of gaming. heck metroid has had a longer drought of 8 years from super metroid to prime/fusion (1994-2002), there was a 9 year gap from pikmin 2 to pikmin 3 (2004-2013), 15 years from super punch out to punchout wii (1994-2009) and TWENTY-ONE years from kid icarus of myth and monsters to kid icarus uprising (1991-2012).

the reason you see mario link and pikachu everywhere in nintendo is cause they're the biggest sellers, and at the end of the day, the cold hard truth is nintendo is a business and the end goal is to make money. yes it would be nice to see more metroid or whatever other franchise one feels doesnt get enough attention, but unfortunately some of these franchises just dont sell well enough to justify releases as often as mario or zelda. and we DO see references to other franchises in certain games (like in smash bros and certain furniture or outfits in animal crossing and now mario kart with excitebike and f-zero courses), just not as often as some people would want. its when they STOP referencing it that you should panic about the franchise, but if color tv games can be referenced in smash bros 37 years after the fact (the first color tv game came out in 1977) nothing is impossible at this point.

i honestly believe one is in the works, its just not ready to be shown yet, which is something else people need to consider; nintendo wont show something until they feel its ready to be shown. they dont want to pull a "duke nukem forever" or "last guardian" where they show off the game, and then give the extremely tentative release date of "when its done," cause after awhile people would just give up on the game ever happening.

so to end this off, dont give up hope for a new metroid or whatever franchise you want to see more of, but also acknowledge the reasons behind why it doesnt show up as often as mario or zelda and realize nintendo is doing their best to give people what they want, but at the end of the day, money trumps everything else for better or worse.

TL;DR 5 year gap doesnt mean its gone forever and if you really want to show nintendo the games you want (or dont want), vote with your wallet.

Yes, I am a big Metroid fan and it makes me really mad that they haven't made a new Metroid Game in forever. :(

I agree partly, (maybe not the Kid Icurus "obscure one off game took years to be picked up for an obscure choice of reboot") though some games aren't entirely comparable (nobody expects a large open game like Elder Scrolls to have regular releases compared to a short story driven game...) and I'm pretty certain that a new Metroid will be coming.

On the other hand, we were also expecting a new F-Zero.

Still, 5 years is a pretty long time for most people these days with devs regularly pumping out sequels. Obviously, quality over quantity, but it's still something people get accustomed to regardless, which makes 5 years seem like a much longer wait.

Still, whether it's 5 years or 45 years, it doesn't really matter, people still look forward to a new Metroid game. Nintendo don't even have to announce a new game, they could just simply announce that Samus isn't on hiatus and let the fans do the do all the hype themselves.
They did re-release Metroid Prime trilogy recently, but they also released Mario Galaxy 2 with it, and they made a fuss of Earthbound being on the eShop and I don't expect anything from those two games either (especially since they announced Mario is on a break from platformers for now). It's fans that are making its digital release out to be a prophecy of things to come.

Again, they announced there's no plans for an F-Zero and whilst we still do want one, it at least let us know that we probably shouldn't have our hopes up for anything soon.

TL:DR

There's no need to get panties in a bunch because people want a sequel to a game they like that is known for having long periods between releases.

Metroid Prime Trilogy digital release also isn't really a sign of things to come...Otherwise, why aren't we expecting a Mario Galaxy 3 (no new Mario Platformers for now confirmed) and a new Earthbound?
If anything, Metroid Prime Trilogy digital release is a sign that they have no plans for the series so they're giving us a rarer and more expensive game for a decent price to 'get our fix' until they do have something planned.
