Well I agree with you comparing is just a natural thing you do, but it seems obvious for some that this type would be like comparing apples and oranges and would tke it too far or serious.
The only reason I love anime is prob bc I grew up on american cartoons. And I love cartoons. I'm literally a huge nerd for it, but not like in a way that I have it as the basis for my hobbies or even socialize over it. (Bc I'm conservative when it comes to sharing myself with people...not shy just....ya etc). But its at the level where I have huge emotional attachments to cartoons, and when I was younger I used to want to be a cartoonist and would come with concepts for shows etc...but I left all that go pretty soon, my artist career has not been composed of all that but been highly influenced by it.
But I'm american and grew up on american cartoons, and whatever anime was on tv at the time I would watch. I'm one of the few that loved sailor moon. it was honestly one of the more interesting shows overall on tv. I was already too old for pokeman, as my lil bro and his friends loved that show and would go to the game shops and [play and have cards etc. In high school I loved shojo manga. Now I think the artsy indie american comics are so intersting.
We have 2 industrialized countries that are booming with pop culture that have their own distinct flavor but do communicate and traverse the world and resonate with other cultures. Its only natural to compare their cimilar mediums. Though it gets more interesting when you actually get into the details of the history or each one and how they grew with the times and influence each other.
