animal type balance?

Hi! Mostly curious as I'm trying to sort out my dream island - do you like to have 10 different animal species or do you like a mix? I was wanting to have 10 unique animals but I am an absolute sucker for ostrich villagers haha. I considered making an all bird-types island, but I know I couldn't say goodbye to my sweet Fauna.

So how do you personally balance? Do you set rules for yourself when choosing villagers or do you just pick ones you like? Would love to hear your villager lineup!

I just pick the ones I like. I have a list longer than ten villagers so its a matter of who I find first and which personality I'm missing.

I try to have no more than two of the same species unless I'm doing monotype! Right now I have Whitney, Judy, Tammi, Deirdre, Jeremiah, Sly, Bianca, Klaus and Bill (I'm looking to kick off Sly and Klaus for sure and adding in Lily, Fang, and Sherb!)

my village is almost entirely goats and deer.

I try to keep it balanced, I do have two cubs and two rabbits though. Once I get pictures from the remaining villagers I will shuffle a few around and may end up with two cats.

I usually tend to have more than one of the same species. I've got 2 cats, 3 squirrels and 2 deer currently.

I tried to have all different species, but right now it looks like my jock will be Sterling, and that's two eagles with Avery. And two koalas (Alice and Eugene) for "story" reasons.

In New Leaf I had an unreasonable amount of rabbits across my two towns. Seven, I think.

I really tried to keep different types of animals, but somehow I ended up with four cats, haha

I definitely prefer having more variety.

I'm maintaining a balance. At first, I wanted to maybe get all of the same species (particularly deer), but then I changed my mind and decided I wanted variety. I don't want two of the same animals either.

Maybe a bit too particular, but just my preference!

I finally got all the personalities, and i like to try and have a good split of boys and girls, but other than that i'm not TOO bothered about duplicate species. although I did have 3 rabbits at one point and it was starting to bother me for some reason lol

Personality balance is more important for me. At one time, I had two birds, two penguins, and two dogs but since they were all completely different from each other, I really didn't care. I certainly didn't set out to have that combination originally.

I try not to have duplicate species in my villages, although narrowing down which cat I want can be really hard. There are too many good cats!

I don't mind having multiple of the same species, I seriously considered making a cat village. But I like having a variety too so I guess either is fine with me, the most important thing is that I like all my villagers. Idk about having a balanced gender either since most of the villagers I like tend to be girls since they tend to have better designs imo, especially the normals.

I like to have at least one of each personality type and no duplicate species. This isn't the case at the moment, but I'll get there eventually. lol

i like to pair them up so they have someone they identify with; like two cats, two bunnies, two wolves, etc. I try to tell myself its not shipping but it probably is lol

My plan is to have 10 different species. I have 2 lions now though since I moved someone out with campsite, but both will go eventually. I have no clue what villagers I would like to permanently stay on my island though. I am noticing I don't really have any dreamies.

I want to have 1 of each personality type, and ideally, 1 of each hobby type. It'd be nice to have different species so I don't end up with a majority of a particular species on my island, but I don't mind having multiple of the same type. Same goes for balancing gender on my island; it'd be nice if it could be an equal split but I don't mind if I have more boys than girls or vice versa, so long as it's not the entire island.
