I want to get your opinions on this. How does the Animal Crossing series fair with other life simulation games? I have played Harvest Moon(not on real time) as well as Sims(also not real time) and I want to know what the community thinks about this. Is Animal Crossing the BEST life Simulation game you have ever played? Or are there better ones? I expect alot of us to be mature about this,so please respect each others opinions, and do not start a fight. For me, the Animal Crossing series is the most brilliant and fun life simulation game(let's just put it as LSG for short) because of the community, and interactions with the characters. It has something special that no other games have.

I've played the Sims, I want to play Harvest Moon but haven't got round to buying it yet.
I love Animal Crossing and think it's amazing at what it does. It's held my interest for longer than the Sims has, but I have a preference for games that are not trying to be too "real" (especially in MMOs...). I wouldn't compare it with the sims though as they are rather different.
I agree with all of your reasons on why you love animal crossing. It just has that thing that makes it really special. The community for the Sims is also pretty good, but the AC community is one of the best I've seen. Everyone (mostly...) is so nice and that makes the game that bit more special.

Every once in awhile I like playing the Sims but it usually comes in phases...
Animal Crossing I feel obligated to play everyday to keep my town and it's residents intact.
Not really a complaint it's just sometimes there's not enough time in the day for me to play. :(
Or my friends sass me when I play while I'm hanging out with them since they don't play video games.

I like AC because there's new stuff every day, and your villagers can change. Don't get me wrong, I love Harvest Moon, but it does get boring. You do the same thing every day, and it's too repetitive. Once you complete the game once, there's not really any replay value because there's nothing new except marrying a different person and having a different kid (in the older games, for the kid part). Rune Factory is a lot better than HM (my opinion completely) because it's Harvest Moon with a lot more to do. Plus, the characters in RF aren't as bland as in HM.

To me, Sims isn't a game I can compare to AC. I play the PC version, because the DS games are crap (again, opinion). The games are just too different. Sims can get repetitive at times, but I will go on kicks where I play it for days and then I won't play it for a couple weeks. With the Sims you are controlling the lives of your Sims, not a character in the game yourself. I love the Sims, but I do like AC more.

Amen.

I think Animal Crossing has a lot of fun events and things for you to do that the SIMS didn't have for me to keep my interest.

I do wish that Animal Crossing had EVEN MORE customization ability, like the ability to draw your own furniture, more mapping on to existing objects, etc… :) I mean it already has a lot of that, but I'd love even more!

I haven't played Harvest Moon or Rune Factory.

I really like the Sims, but it's hard to compare it to the likes of Animal Crossing and Harvest Moon. They're really not the same, imo. So it's hard for me to pick between the two. I'd probably still go with Animal Crossing being more fun though.

Animal Crossing is the best game!
I've played Sims for too many years and it just gets boring with all the cheats. I know I could just not play with cheats, but it's hard not to haha! But Animal Crossing seems a bit more "real" or just not as easy. You can't really cheat in AC, but you can't really win either. You can run around, do exactly what you want and just be free.
I love Animal Crossing in a way I will never love Sims.

Animal Crossing > The Sims

But I really like building houses/mansions in The Sims.

I love both Sims and Animal Crossing, but I dont think the games can be easily compared with each other.

Sims lets you handle a bunch of families at once, it gives you a lot more control over buildings, landscapes, furniture and just how the entire place looks like. But it also feels really impersonal, the relationships between the characters around the game are mostly just simple commands and gibberish. The feeling you get from the game is "I am the god of this land! I control the destiny of every single one of you mortals! Everything you see around you was created under MY command! ahAHHAHHAHAHHA!!!!"

Meanwhile, Animal Crossing has a lot more limitations when it comes to managing the enviroment, you only control 4 humnas and building up your houses takes a huge while, and each one is very limited in terms of options. Even trying to decorate your town has a lot of limitations! ( Where trees and bushes can grow, where PWPs can be put at.) But of course, that means a lot of attention is put into every single little detail of the game, making villagers and NPCs get friendly with you feels really rewarding and all the limitations give you a better sense of acomplishment once you finish up getting all the furtinure for a room or getting that one rare hybrid that just wouldnt bloom or having a villager suggest that one specific PWP you really wanted! The feeling you get from the game is "I am the mayor of this town. I run this place to a certain extent but it all has a life of its own, I am part of this comunity and I must help make it grow. Yeeaaah!".

I have never played a Harvest Moon game, though, and Im not really interested.

I do have to say Ive enjoyed and put a lot more hours into ACNL that into any Sims game.

It's reeeeaaally hard for me to play without the money cheat >__> I JUST WANT TO BUILD A BIG HOUSE WITH ALL THE PRETTY FURNITURE

I played Sims 3,done some "woohooing",beach parties etc. In 3 hours. Then I got bored. Just my opinion though. EA really let themselves go..

My daughter got me this game because Pet Society ( it was a FB game ) closed down leaving me stranded. Pet society would release new content in the stores to buy every week. There was crafting that you could use to unlock NIS items. There were games and interaction with other players. I enjoyed it as a time waster and it was a nice way to play with my grandchildren, nephew and nieces over the internet. After they shut it down I tried other online games, but they seemed more driven and less community oriented. ( Farmville is scary - I have actually been de-friended by people because I reached the limit of gift giving and couldn't respond to their requests.... scary - scary - people. )

I'm enjoying the diversity offered in AC. I love the fact that I can visit family member towns and gift them items. This board is filled with wonderful and caring people. I haven't played Sims, but I must say I'm enjoying this game very much.

Wow. Pet Society? I have not heard of that for a loooong time. I played it a long time ago,so hearing it closing down kinda makes me sad. Thank you for your opinion.:)

I enjoy the simulation genre in general, and am a long time Harvest Moon fan. Sims I love for the ability to create my own stories, and for the house building. When the mood strikes me to play, I'll usually start up a legacy challenge and go from there. With things like harvest moon and rune factory, I don't mind the repetitiveness... I find it relaxing for casual play.

Hahahahahahaha! I KNOW! motherlode all the way.
I once played Sims 2 with my friend and all we did was making our sims pregnant with the Reaper, the pizza delivery guy, their siblings and all that with some messed up cheat we found..
Last time I played I used a code for making them healthy and getting the perfect careers haha!

The only thing that Harvest Moon has that makes it as good as AC imo,is the Harvest Moon soundtrack. Oh the glory days <3
