I work at a restaurant and there are always unpleasant customers, but this week seems especially bad. It's nothing EXTREME, it's just terribly annoying, like the parents who got mad at me when the general noise (people talking, eating, dishes clanking) woke up their infant daughter, and some snobby man who insulted several of our severs because we don't carry some pricy alcohol he wanted, saying something along the lines of "This must be a difficult profession for you!" when one of our servers said she would have to check to see if we carried that brand of wine. He ended up not ordering and stormed out before our manager could ask him to leave.

So, anyone have any annoying customer stories they'd like to share?

I work at Walmart...

I think I've already said enough.

I could only imagine... Retail is horrible in general. I've worked at JoAnns for 4 years now and I have an endless amount of rude customer stories. It's a large format store, and 90% of the time we are under staff so working customer service it's all my fault for not having staff on the floor or not enough cashiers/cutters.
Once there was a lady that came in looking for a certain yarn brand/color that we discontinued over a year ago, she had me look through the website, calling other stores, everything, she was so horribly rude and started saying crap about our company, my job position, our staff/management. Then after 45 minutes or so of dealing with her she stormed to our yarn department and threw half our stock of yarn on the ground. She was around 65 and I wanted to punch her in the face.

I've never worked at shops like that, but I hope I never have to. I've heard so many awful customer stories. It's terrible how rude people can be to the workers, when most of the time, whatever issue there may be is not the worker's fault.

I always hear such horrible stories about people working in retail like this, and it's just all these stories that make me not want to get a job like that, even though I know as soon as I turn 16 next year my parents want me to look for one. ._. Which sucks, because I'm incredibly shy around people and have terrible socializing skills, so I doubt I'd cope well at all. Why do people have to be so rude and inconsiderate and horrible... Why...

Same.
Also, I'd lose my patience (and I'm very patient) with idiots and losers anyways. Sure, I'm getting paid to stay quiet, but if you said something completely offensive, I'll make a scene.

People can be real a-holes...I'm not one of' em though so you'd never have to worry about me giving any worker a hard time, I know they're just like you and me just trying to get by, so I know it's just absurd at how upset people get at the workers. It's unbelievable, and my parents have acted that way unfortunately, it was embarrassing to be around them then...

I went to get my nails done at the local nail salon. They are very popular, so there is normally a long wait. That night it was almost empty. In the middle of my manicure, a lady walked in, dragging her left leg behind her. She announced that she wanted a manicure AND A PEDICURE. The staff was very nice to her. They gently suggested that she get just a manicure. She became irate and sctarted yelling at them to give her her ******* pedicure.

I hate when parents leave their children unattended and they **** up tHE DAMN TOY AISLE AND/OR THE CANDY AISLE AND I HAVE TO GO CLEAN IT UP.

At Asda, there are quite a lot of customers that are not as much annoying as they are stupid.
For example, someone asked to return a pizza because it had no toppings on. They were holding it upside down...

Or, someone else asked to return a barbecue because it "doesn't come with the food on the box"

The only time my parents have ever made a scene in a store was when an employee at our local GAME store sold our pre-ordered PS3 to someone else right in front of us... We went to pick it up at the end of the release day and waited in the queue with our receipt, then the woman in front of us started making a fuss that she HAD to get a PS3 for her son, but the employee told her that there was only one PS3 left and it was pre-ordered (by us). Eventually the woman had done enough kicking and screaming and offering extra money that they sold her OUR PS3 even when we stepped in with our pre-order reciept!

We then went to the store manager to complain, we didn't get ANY money back and were told that they now couldn't do anything about it.

I work in a hotel, this was my first service industry job. Im just naturally a reserved, private person, but this job has given me really valuable people skills. Having to announce something to a lobby full of people, or go tell a group of people to be quiet, has improved my public speaking skills and given me a lot of confidence around strangers. Yeah I get the a$$es and the idiots but ive also learned how to deal with them. One thing that helps is to realize that we really arent all that different from one another, and though they may be initially rude about something, if you make an honest effort to help them they usually calm down and apologize. Another thing that helps is to try and imagine why person x is being such an a$$. When I have some guy lose his cool about something trivial I feel sorry for him, thinking maybe his wife bosses him around so much he takes it out on whoever he can (not that its excusable, but I cant say im perfect in that regard either though I make a real effort). Honestly, I really truly believe that when someone is rude, insulting, unreasonable its because theyre unhappy with themselves or uncomfortable with where they are. Plus lots of times its apparent that the a$$hole (if his/her family is with them) is really embarrassing their family members by being that way and in that case I feel bad for all of them. Ive had peoples spouses/kids come down and apologize for something their family member said or did. Anyways, usually I just feel bad for whoever it is because they cant or dont realize they cant deal with people in a civilized manner, I think "thank god im better than that" and forget about it. Besides most of these type jobs are the kind you can forget about when you clock out anyway. I wouldnt trade the confidence ive developed to be able to look people straight in the eyes, or get the attention of a room full of people, for a million dollars.

now there people who are just deep down mean and vindictive and they want to make you unhappy, you cant escape those types no matter where you work, in that case forgetta boutem...

Worst customer award goes to multiple people I've dealt with
1. He's not so much as a customer, but my fianc?s boss. They had recently lost their waitress, and me and my fianc? could had used the extra cash so I decided to take the job until the find someone else. Well, at the Time, I'm 3 months pregnant. I've had bad acid reflux and Nausea for most of it, but the worst is, my hunger spiked up ten fold. So when the boss said I could eat, I would. And mind you, I worked from 10am to 10pm 7 days a week. I got to eat @ 2pm and again @ 8-9pm. To anyone who knows someone or as been pregnant themselves, you need to eat every 3 hours or so. I would also put away my food if a customer came, so it's not like I sat there pigging out the whole time. Well, after about a month and a half, his boss comes up to me and starts yelling at me saying I'm doing nothing but eating, I can't do anything, and that it's disgusting that I eat while on the job. You know, in the time frame HE gave me.
He got yelled at outside by my fianc? and multiple customers stopped coming in because they couldn't believe what a gross person he was to me.

2. This customer refused to leave me a tip because "little girls who get pregnant like you don't deserve financial stability" I'm 21 years old. I'm pretty sure I'm not a little girl and if I decided to have a baby, that's my decision and matters not to anyone else.

I work at Asda too. I'm sure people just lose any common sense they have when they enter a supermarket. Not only that, but there are a lot of incredibly rude people.

WHOA. Uncalled for? Totally ignorant? I think so. Times like that I'd love to go to the cashier and add gratuity to the receipt.

Sorry about your boss too. One of our servers is pregnant and we are always sitting her down and making sure she eats hahah. We have a pretty good manager though. Sometimes talks too much with the customers -- not that that's bad. It's just hard to get her attention when you need her for something.

My worst experience has to be back when I was at Canadian Tire.. woman wanted to buy fertilizer, but kept asking me questions in her own language.. then speaks PERFECT english to the manager when I get to get him. What the hell is with that?!
