So I'm not sure if any of the other AC games had the amiibo feature or not, but it got me thinking. Do you guys prefer to use amiibos to get your perfect villagers, or do you leave it up to chance with NMT to find your dreamies?

Personally I like a bit of both. Being able to use amiibos to get my favs is nice, but I also love using NMT to browse islands and maybe fall in love with a new villager I hadn't considered before. Goodness knows there are a ton of them.

What are all of your opinions on the matter?

I don't have set "dreamies," per say, so I go with chance about 90% of the time. Sometimes, if there's a villager I really want, I'll invest in their amiibo card. But honestly using amiibo to get all my villagers just takes the fun out of the game.

I prefer to hunt. I bought some amiibos and haven't used them except for Etoile's since I couldn't get her without it. I think just spawning them in feels less rewarding for my personal play style in games. However, I fully understand the appeal of it and may do so at some point. I bought Pecan's and still haven't seen her on a island all this time, so I might break down and card her in at some point. I also bought a couple of the Series 5 Packs and could see myself swiping in someone if I just never run into them like Sasha, Raymond, or Petri who have a lot of competition in their respected species for Mystery Island spawns.

chance 100%. i found raymond in the campsite like a week ago and i'm still giddy about it, it is 100000x more rewarding to have a dreamie that you found entirely by chance imo!! i'm reminded of how happy i felt when i found him everytime i see him in my island and i love it

Before 2.0 I would've said hunt. I have plenty of points, so I could hunt for whoever freely. After 2.0 though I'm gonna say amiibo. I need my points for other things, and a one time cost/trade will likely do me better than having to struggle between hunting and getting the stuff I want.

i just use nmts tbh. i think i considered buying an NFC reader + cards last christmas but changed my mind as i thought/still think there wasn't much point in getting amiibo cards for myself but i guess they're handy for giveaways/for people who're collecting the cards/for specific dreamies !! also appreciate the cards' aesthetic ;D

I'm not a lucky person, so I'd rather go with Amiibos to get what I want. But trying to get Amiibos you want is a game of chance in itself...

Depends.

If you're looking for a certain villager then hunting is a chore that feels like gambling after awhile (imo), especially if your luck is bad like mine. Sometimes it'll feel worth it when you do find them so it's not entirely too bad. The alternative is having to forfeit money on amiibo cards. If you have the money then you can go for it but I send my condolences to people who don't have the money or just can't buy amiibo cards.

However, If you're just trying to find someone new/random then yeah, hunting is actually really fun. I didn't think too much of Merry until I found her on a random island and needed to fill in house slots at the beginning of the game and now I have like 3 doodles of her because I love her so much even though her being a permanent villager of mine is unlikely since I have so many villagers I want ugh.

i really enjoy both for different reasons! i’ve met a lot of cool villagers through the islands that i wouldn’t have even considered otherwise (including sweet Dom)

however, i usually like to coordinate the villager house exteriors on my island to make everything look really cute and slightly matchy. so to do that i have to pick out the villagers first, based on how their house looks lol

so amiibos are definitely more convenient for my play style

I personally prefer amiibo; they save time, and I really like the peace of mind of knowing that if amiibo are supported in future titles, I can always invite them back.

i enjoy my mystery island, i just bought the hello kitty one because of the objects and because they do not appear in the mystery islands and would like to have their picture.

the onlything i care about amiibos are the NPCs, i would not mind collecting those, im okey not having all all but at the very least my most wanted ones which are a few 😅, now due the caffee and the HHP DLC

Generally I prefer to hunt, but it becomes such a pain once you're searching for the last one or two permanent slots between kicking out the right villagers and finding a handful of villagers on mystery islands out of the four hundred possibles -- so I hunted for 8 of my permanent villagers and amiiboed in the last 2. Basically, hunting's fun, but I'm good to switch to amiiboes when it stops being fun, yknow?

Chance all the way! It's so satisfying finding that dreamie all by yourself. It's also how I've come across new villagers that I wouldn't have bothered with otherwise.

I would say both. Mystery islands are fun sometimes, but looking at the statistics of how mystery islands work, I probably wouldn't have been able to get a lot of my favorite villagers without amiibos.

I had a lot of fun searching for villagers on mystery islands and checking the campsite at every occasion I had, and it's true it's very satisfying earning a dreamie by this method, all of that was a big part of the game for a while for me.

But now, after a year, I kinda want to do new things (thanks to the 2.0 update) and also focusing on perfecting my island decoration.
So I pre-ordered some series 5 amiibos to get the new villagers I want (and I got some made ones in the past too), they gonna be useful for the HHP dlc.

I will still go hunting or trading for some of the new villagers if I'm not lucky and don't get their amiibos though.
