I have a physical Rover amiibo (not card) and I've seen that you can choose "Gimme something" and the NPC might give you their picture, but I only have the option of inviting Rover's RV to my town. Can you only do this with amiibo cards?
Yes, only the cards will let them give you their pic. Unfortunately, which makes it incredibly hard, since the cards come in random packs and you only get 1 NPC per pack.
Just a small additional info. With the card, you can only ask for a picture per character. It's one time that they(wisp) gives you the picture. If you want "spare" pictures, you gotta create a new character.
