Question: I invited three different villagers via Amiibo just once each before deciding who I wanted to bring on first. I then invited that villager, Cherry, twice more and they moved in. Easy peasy. However, when I just tried to invite one of the other two villagers I had, Lucky, via Amiibo two more times, it did not allow me to invite him to move in! I have definitely scanned in his Amiibo a total of three times and yet he’s asking me to invite him back again. What happened?! Did inviting Cherry to live with me make his process reset?

You'll need to scan three days in a row. Consecutively

So to answer your question, yes. The process was reset by scanning Cherry.

This can’t be it and here’s why: I scanned Cherry first of all three of the villagers before deciding I wanted her. There were not only two villagers in between her but also, more than a week between my first scan of her and the second scan.

I want to know if the process resets when you jump a day or scan other villagers in the meantime

I just brought Agnes in by amiibo, and delayed a day after the first visit, then invited her and didn't actually talk to her, so invited her a total of 4 times over 5 days. Giving her the 3rd item did the trick.
I'd guess it was inviting somebody else in the meantime that reset Lucky. Just try again tomorrow and let us know how it goes. One extra day isn't so bad considering how awesome amiibo move-ins are c:

I will let you know what Lucky does tomorrow! I don’t mind the waiting at all. The issue and the bummer is that I had coordinated this move with a friend so that they could take the villager I was going to boot out today. They now have an empty house to fill and they can’t postpone it or else it will just auto fill with a rando. I think my hunch that fulfilling three scans/invites to another villager makes any other Amiibo in the mix you may have scanned once or twice reset to zero.

I'm not entirely sure the specifics but I did notice that sometimes the amiibos reset and sometimes they don't for example; I invited Static for 3 days, then invited Kabuki for 3 days, and I did a few more amiibos. A few days went by and I invited Static back and he immeditatly wanted to move in. However when I invited one of the other amiibos that had been there for 3 days they were reset, however I invted Kabuki back and, just like Static, he wanted to move in immediately. So in conclusion, I have no idea how it works.

edit: I just thought of something, maybe there is a real time, time limit that the amiibos will remember. I scanned static in 1 real day later, same with Kabuki. I also time travel, perhaps the amiibos internally keep track of the time or something, idk just a thought.

I personally am not sure about the reset issue because I haven't tried it, but I can confirm the 3 invites don't have to be on consecutive days unlike people are saying. In my experience, the game has always remembered how many times I've invited a villager. For clarity's sake, you are making sure to keep talking to the amiibo villager after giving them the item and asking them to move in, right?

That doesn't really make sense because I invited Bob twice then moved in probably 5 or 6 different villagers from cycling then on my last cycling villager I invited Bob once and he wanted to move in. Maybe it's a glitch or something?
