I'm having a hard time finding amiibo cards, especially because I want specific ones and the packs are really expensive and i don't want to buy a pack and not get any of the cards that I want. I know that there are sellers on amazon who have authentic cards of the ones i want, I'm just wondering if that is frowned upon by Nintendo or allowed? I know a lot of people do DIY amiibos and sell them on etsy and I thought about going that route but I'm not comfortable doing that in case somehow it doesn't work or i get in trouble somehow, also I am interested in starting to collect amiibos but would like to start with the ones i want.

There is no way for your Switch to tell the difference between an authentic Amiibo and a fan made one— they’re the exact same information on data chip

If your favourites happen to be less popular villagers then I would recommend to check places like ebay or depop for people selling single cards, some cards are actually very cheap (I paid 99p for some of my favourites which is actually what they would've costed from a pack!) Otherwise, I would say that custom amiibos would probably be the best route if you are comfortable with that.

It's worth noting that there was a restock of series 1-4 and welcome amiibo in Japan after the release of NH, so other regions might get re-releases soon. Until that potentially happens, as you said I would avoid buying sealed packs because they're quite expensive currently.

I would get the none popular villager amiibo cards from ebay or mercari. imo mercari is more trusting.
Now for popular villagers, I would say mercari and custom made ones from etsy. Sorry but etsy do sells them cheaper for each card, unlike ebay they will sell popular villagers like 70$ for a single card which was crazy. But you can always get the big packs from amazon when they're on sale around the holidays or if you saved up a lot and you can buy them.

For me, I am not into collecting the physical product. I am just after the villager. If you are like me, you won't have look for those authentic ones. Fan made ones will do the job of getting your villager. :)

I'm like you; I've thought of the non-authentic ones, but there's something about having the REAL thing that would please me more. Praying Nintendo will bring the cards back because it's been a long time since they've been in stock and collectors are making it very difficult.

I actually just used my first amiibo card from a shop on etsy! Worked great, really nice quality, and great price! Plus I love that I can support someone in a small way during all this uncertainty.

I hope so too. I was really close to completing mine. I need over a dozen Welcome Amiibos and two series four. I always have been one that liked to collect official merchandise and trading cards. What you said is exactly how I feel about them. I was thinking of using a gift card i just got on the WAs and for an individual card they were $12 but to me that’s way too much (even though someone said some of the prices were $20). Trade has really slowed down in the amiibo section of the board; I have enough dupes to get what I need, the problem is not a lot of people have what I need or they have what I’m offering.

Exactly! I've almost taken the dive with some of those individual cards, but why spend that much when they regular pack is like $6 CDN? Just seems like way too much for one. And that's not even taking into account the ones that are $90. Those are ridiculous.

I've bought quite a few of the fan made amiibos. No regrets at all, they all work perfectly and I really appreciate not having to drop $40+ for a single authentic amiibo. It's utterly ridiculous

I have a problem with people charging for the fan made variety...textbook definition of stealing.

I agree with your sentiment. However, Nintendo is doing a poor job distributing these to other countries. I really can't blame those people who went for the fan made ones. There's definitely a market for it. Otherwise, you won't see these people selling them.

I still remember the days when we pirate music. Now that we have streaming services, it's no longer a big deal anymore. Nintendo should need to step up and address the demand.

Unless you really care about authenticity or ever plan on selling your cards because they're authentic, I say go for the custom made ones. They work just the same. I'd only suggest you get them from a trusted seller, if you're worried about them not working right.

I paid a fortune for a Marshal amiibo before I knew about custom made ones! Now I buy those for a few quid a go from eBay and they work exactly the same.

If you just want the villager, buy a fan made card from Etsy for a couple of bucks.

Nintendo couldn't be bothered so why not.

I've bought many real AND fan made cards.

They work perfectly.

I have two switches, two 3ds-es, 3 amiibo figures and a pack of real cards. I don’t feel guilty whatsoever towards Nintendo that I supported someone in need of money in this pandemic by buying a few cards on etsy

We’re talking about a few cheap gacha cards here, nobody is putting the whole game up for download.

I’d rather support a small etsy seller than someone earning 100$ a card from ebay, Nintendo gets nothing either way. If they wanted the money they should release more cards

I'm currently trying to get the authentic phoebe, trying ebay mainly. Would actually settle for a fake if like other tcg cards they made them look like the original, so i would have the nice art to look at, but sadly fakes seem to be blank white slips with the name written on them so only good for download nothing else

well, I've seen interesting designed fakes online- ones I plan on buying come from an etsy seller who makes the amiibo into polaroid pictures of the character, says the character's name, personality type, and what official number they are. It's actually really cool and I'd like that a lot more than some of the official ones. I bought most of mine brand new when they were still in stock, and then the Sanrio ones off ebay...
there are some fake amiibo cards that are more than blank white slips. And honestly, supporting creators during a pandemic is worth while imo. The polaroids I mentioned are made by akcrossing on etsy, if you wanna take a look.

I'm actually surprised Nintendo hasn't restocked in the West yet. Maybe its coming but then again, maybe it's not. I think it's silly if they don't considering all they're doing is allowing scalpers to make a quick buck.

I feel bad for those just getting into the series/card collecting now. It's gotta be tough. I haven't used the fanmade cards but I've heard nothing but great things from them!
