So, I just saw, "The Amazing Spider-Man", for the 2nd time. Everything has sort of sunk in. So, I'm going to compare what, 'I' think, the new film does better than, "Spider-Man" (2002), and vice-versa.

What, Amazing Spider-Man, does better:

- Better Peter/Spider-Man: Andrew Garfield just seemed like a better Spidey. The jokes felt natural. He was more relate-able.

- Better Love Interest: Two words, Emma Stone. Also, she does more than go, "AH! SAVE ME!"

- Better Uncle Ben: He was a lot more developed than before. Actually, that can be said for most characters in this version.

- Web Shooters. Thank god they included these.

What, Spider-Man (2002), does better:

- Better Costume: The costume in this is classic Spider-Man. The costume in, "Amazing", not so much...

- Daily Bugle: I missed this in the new film. I mean, he still took pictures. But, I wish that was more than a plot device, for like, two scenes.

- Better Villian: The Lizard, has clear motivation, but it didn't seem like he did anything other than mope, or get mad. Green Goblin just seemed more twisted, and a better opposing force. I guess that's why he's Spidey's arch-enemy.

- More sympathy for Peter: Yes, of course you feel bad for Peter for losing his Uncle Ben, in both films. But, the whole story of him trying to keep away from the love interest is just better in this one. Yes, he does end up going for her in the other films but, in the first movie, Peter stays away from MJ. He wants to protect her. But, in, "Amazing", He says he will stay away from Gwen Stacey, brakes it off, and you feel bad for him. But then, not even 3 scenes later he's already, clearly getting back together with her, so what was the point? At least in the original, you know he was trying to leave MJ behind.

Anyways, those are just some of the opinions I had when comparing the two films. I personally prefer the newer film over the old, and that's probably due to the stronger characters and their development. But, it's not without it's flaws as well. What are your thoughts on the newer film?

The Amazing Spider-Man was better than I thought it would be, but I prefer the original trilogy. I heard they're making up to five more movies, each introducing villains and then having them combine into the Sinister Six in the final film. If that's true, and the 'Amazing' films continue to improve, they could be better than the Raimi version.

I couldn't get over how terribly they handled the Lizard. He looked ugly as what, had a stupid voice, and wasn't that impressive compared to other villains. I would have liked them to introduce Curt Connors and then developed him in various movies like in the original trilogy.

I honestly like Amazing Spider Man better. It had an overall better plot and story development, I felt more for the characters, and Andrew Garfield wasn't as whiny and 'serious' as Toby McGuire. Spider Man was always a comedian and he really wasn't in the original trilogy. Not just that, but there was no REAL connecting storyline. Aside from the Green Goblin, but that just got ridiculous after a while. All Harry did for the first two movies was whine about how Spider Man killed his father, and then he went insane (but not as insane/ridiculous as Peter) in the third movie. My only gripe was that the Lizard looks liked a Goomba from the Super Mario Bros. film with the Joker's smile plastered on his face.

I'll give you that Amazing definitely seemed to better display the comedic side of Spiderman, but apart from that I think the movie was inferior to the original in most ways. It's mostly a classic case of style over substance. First of all, I had real trouble buying into the notion that an absurdly handsome Peter Parker was an unpopular outcast, or anything near it. And they had to keep shoving the modern world into so many places. I remember laughing when I saw him using Bing to search and wondering how much Microsoft paid for that. He was constantly talking on his smart phone and even played a game on it at one point. I was also amused, as I always am, when they pulled out the laughably complex computer visualizations. Apparently in the near future we'll expend more processing power on making scientific computing look pretty than on the computing itself. Just think back to the 2002 movie and ask yourself if there was anything in it that really gave away the time period in which it was set.

That said, it was very well acted. I do quite like Martin Sheen.

Edit - Lizard guy sucked, though.

In my opinion, I didn't like Andrew Garfield as spiderman, than Toby Mcguire as Spiderman.
Also, i agree with what Trevor said.
