Been seeing a lot of people restarting their islands just to prepare for the update, however there is one thing they seem to forget. If they restart all of their hard earned bells, nook miles, diys that they earned are gone. My advice is that if you still want to restart you need to have a friend or someone you trust hold on to your bells, nook mile tickets, furniture you still want to keep and ask them if they have any spare diys that you can relearn by the time you get your new island.

I am trying to do a whole new makeover for my island but I didn't restart I went around and deleted areas I didn't like and I am starting over.
That way I still have everything I've collected.

Honestly the one thing that's holding me back is the start date of March 20, 2020. I don't want to lose that lol
I once restarted my old island when it was on that date and when I got my new island I did a smart thing and time traveled backwards to that time to make sure I was a day one player. This was back when I did this in May 2021 when my old island "Traverse" was deleted.

I think for some people (me included) the loss of those things isn’t a negative. In fact, starting with nothing (no bells, miles etc.) is part of the appeal—it’s truly what makes it a fresh start, because you get that opportunity to build toward something again. I don’t mind being behind other players, and just feel like I have a lot of play time ahead of me that way.

One thing people might consider is restarting not right before, but instead just after the new update. That way, if the new villagers are included in the general pool, they’ll have an easier time getting them (at least the uchi, jock, normal, lazy and peppy villagers).

I am also one of those who doesn't want to lose all the progress in the game. So weeks ago, before we even knew about the update, I tore down everything and reorganized my whole island, section by section. I also changed the river. I knew if I reset everything I would still change up the river so it didn't matter what map I went with.

It's still a work in progress but this way, it feels like a fresh start without losing all the progress.

I knew after restarting my main island, I had to use my 2nd switch to keep all the items that I need to start out with, so in the end I didn't lose all of my bells, nook mile tickets, furniture, and all the materials. Granted it does suck that all the DIYS that I've learned are gone, but I was able to earn them back by doing trading thanks to myself earing so many nook mile tickets from last year.

I have been thinking this too, but then I remembered the Museum thing, and I don't want to go through that hell again, I already finished it once and twice, only to be thrown away afterwards.

Nope, I made a vow to never restart my island again unless I feel there's a legit reason. Pouting about my island is NOT an option! Plus of course I have flattened my island since may and haven't had anything to do with it, until now. So far I made fake buildings for Raddle and Ketchup, those being a Hospital for Raddle (And Petri too) and a Pizza Restaurant + Tomato Farm for Ketchup. I feel very proud of the fake building designing skills I have done, and they're far from being done.

In conclusion: Don't restart your island, there's still so much potential you can do to it, also, don't design too much, or you may just have no room for the new items and you'll feel possibly regretful that you just cannot let the items go in place of the new ones. My only reasoning to restart is if you COMPLETELY LOATHE IT!!! (Pardon if that came out as rude...) Also be sure to ask some trustworthy person/family member who also plays ACNH to hold all your items you need to restart and try getting lots of DIY Recipes, go to a catalog island to catalog everything and (Optional) spend TBT/In-game Bells on Bells to finish your home loan faster and/or NMT to find the villagers you want.

I don't suggest it either but I understand why alot of people are doing so. They want to experience the game as a whole now that it is completed and they have probably felt stale for a long time and just ready for a new file. And the nice part about it, is this time you don't have to trade so much to get the nook mile stuff you want thanks to Reese.

I restarted recently, and it's much easier since I could have someone hold the stuff I didn't want to part with. Since I brought my bells, tools, and some materials from the old game the tutorial section is going by quickly. And I'm finding that I'm enjoying gradually recollecting recipes, critters for the museum, and items for my catalog. The game is going to be fresh and fun for a very long time for me now.

I made a dream of my old island and marked down the code for that so I can still visit it if I want. I also took a video capture on my Switch of my Nook achievements page with the starting dates of when the game came out, so I have a record of all those. I wrote down the codes for all my favorite designers and dream addresses, too.

Personally I would never delete my island, sucks you can’t just make another profile.
I fortunately have another switch so I can start over if I want but can’t trade between them unfortunately.
