~Advice on getting a 5 star island ~

does it matter if you don’t want a 5 star island?

it’s just I like having my diys materials near the diy table and I have spare diys on the ground too

Well I didn't care about having it, just one day I picked up all the DIYs and stuff I had on the beach for guests and Isabelle told me I reached the 5 stars! I just kept it until a lily of the valley spawned and now I'm back at 4, with the beach full of gifts haha
So yeah, if you don't care about getting the 5* just play as you like!

You don't have to get 5 stars if you don't want to. You just won't get Lilly if the Valleys growing on your island.

Having a lot of flowers helps a lot as well when it comes to getting five stars.

Personally I’d just get five stars for the golden watering can diy and then not worry about the rating anymore.

You won’t get Lilly of the valley’s without five stars, but if you really want some you can just trade for them.

I was surprised with my 5 star status too. I got it after giving my islanders front yards. It required me to plant trees and flowers and add fences and items. But yeah, I drop down to four stars when I put my DIYs on the ground too, which is annoying since I have to have them out for people to come get them so I'm always moving them in and out of my house.

I unexpectedly ended up at 5 stars, but then dropped down to 4 due to the number of trees on my island. There's no way I was getting rid of any trees, so I was fine sticking at 4 stars - the only real reason to get 5 stars was the gold watering can as far as i could see.

Last week I decided to remove some shrubs that I no longer liked, and ended up at 5 stars again. I had no idea 'trees' meant shrubs, too!

I got 5 stars today after cleaning up my diys, lol. I'm not a fan of having furniture everywhere (although I did start randomly placing whatever furniture I got from balloons to try to up my rating), but I think the flowers I have make up for it.
I hid a lot of fencing behind houses, so that helps up the score without impacting the scenery too much.

Honestly, just do the island how you want it.

I did very minimal terraforming (just to smooth of the edges on the cliffs), built a few inclines and bridges to make it more accessible, put some furniture that I thought was cute outside, planted some trees and shrubs to act as barriers and I got 5 stars.

A lot of the people with five stars have super full islands with a lot of stuff on display, but imho it looks a bit cluttered to me, but to each their own. I thought I had to do that too but you don’t! I was surprised I got 5 stars even though mine isn’t “fully developed” I have large areas where it’s just green grass.

So you can imagine my surprise when I saw the Lilly of the Valley flower! <333

You also don’t need to have 10 villagers because my fiancé has a five star island with only 9 villagers.

I might have to try the hiding fences behind villager houses. Every Saturday I check once my turnips are gone and I'm still at 4 stars. I have tons of flowers, about the default amount of trees (never any complaints from Isabelle) and lots of items including Nook miles ones - it'd be difficult to place too much more given the flowers without it getting overly cluttered. I do have some fences (hedge, lattice, simple, bamboo, iron) but that's the only specific suggestion I've gotten besides placing more items. I'd prefer to come about it naturally but it hasn't happened so far...

For me, I decorated my whole island, made microenvironements (tiki bar, open library, zen garden) and shops, some fenced yards and flower gardens, and when I picked up my DIYs from the ground I hit 5 stars. And I still have some undecorated parts and lots of weeds. Just keep following Isabelle's tips and decorating your island and you'll get there naturally, as long as you're not in a rush

Don't overthink it, you'll reach it in the end ! ☺
Some advices :
- Put fences and place outside furnitures around all 10 villagers houses
- Lot of flowers
- Don't leave dropped items on the floor (DIY, Turnips, etc)
