Adopt a villager while having 10 villagers in town (one of them in boxes)?

Can you adopt a villager from another town when you have 10 villagers (with one of them being in boxes)?

Sadly, no. You must have space whatsoever. So the one in boxes will have to be gone to make space.

I would just time travel to the next day so the boxed villager is gone and then go pick up the new villager from your friend's town - problem solved..
