Okay so I've had this problem for a while now... I have looked everywhere and I haven't found anyone else with the same problem. Whenever I try to open ACNL (I have a physical copy and I am using a 2DS) it loads on the train screen for about 10 seconds and then it crashes and says "Unknown Error, the system will now restart (any unsaved data will be lost)." I haven't been able to play the game for over 2 months. I have tried replacing the SD card and obviously taking the game out and putting it back in. I did "hack" a while ago but it worked for a long time after that so I don't think that's the problem. If anyone has any idea it would be greatly appreciated because I really don't want to buy a new copy. Thanks!

Ah, i'm afraid maybe your saved data could be corrupted :(. It's unlikely it could be the 2DS as they're often quite reliable, but it's possible. Maybe you should contact Nintendo about it they might be able to help! If not, you may have to get a new copy. Hope this helps!

Yeah I forgot to mention that my other games work just fine it's just ACNL :)

I was thinking the same thing, I am going to attempt to contact them. Thank you ! :)

I think it may be corrupted or caused from the hack. :c Contact Nintendo?

So I just figured out that if I change the time back to a time before it wouldn't play I can play it.. If I delete my save file and start over do you think it would work? I'm thinking about trying it even though I have spent so much time on this town but i's better than not being able to play at all..

Possibly, but I doubt it would work. I don't think it has anything to do with how the game works, but you can give it a try!

Your hacking probably bricked your cartridge corrupted your save data. If you ever saved a backup of your game from your SD card on your PC, use it. Otherwise, the only way to get your game to work again is by completely restarting your town. I'm sorry, those are pretty much the consequences of rom hacking AC:NL. Always have backups. :|

Hacking is the problem whether you want to hear it or not. Nintendo is cracking down on hacking in their new update, that is fact ot sure if it has anything to do with this now or not. It seems it has corrupted your save file..you know the hacking. It's a little idiotic you didn't back up your save file as a just in case but that's my opinion. I would suggest resetting it but it sounds like you don't even hit the continue page.

I know you already said you were resetting, OP, but in case it helps, here is what I remember seeing before: this same thing has happened to others here and here, both on a cartridge and on a digital copy. I don't see that there's been a resolution for the cartridge, though someone found a solution for a digital copy. Neither OP mentioned hacking, so I don't know if they did or not. I do recall someone posting about the same problem in the past, and they had never hacked. (I'm not going to debate the pros and cons of hacking, and I know we're not supposed to really discuss it here on TBT; I'm just saying that at least one person I know of had the same problem as you, and they had never hacked. I wish I could find that post.)

If you haven't reset yet, maybe if you're still able to start the game up on a previous date, maybe do that, then save and quit, and then time travel to a date beyond the date that won't work? I really don't know if it will help, but it's worth a shot, if you haven't already reset.

Oh man! I had the same problem with one of my other games. I read online that, if something like this happens to hold the power button and shut it off and then start it up again. The first time I had this error, I just clicked and clicked and my whole SD card memory and such got erased I was so sad. It hasn't happen for the second time yet and I hope it doesn't, but I might try to see if this trick works. Just thought I let this idea I found out just in case it does work~
