AC:NL Beginner (Need Pointers)

I very recently obtained New Leaf (April 1st!) and I was hoping someone could either give me some advice on visiting other towns or link me to a good guide!

I was curious if by visiting another person's town if I can buy from the shops in their respective towns... I accidentally sold my fishing rod last night and I also need to buy a slingshot and wet suit so I can collect more eggs in today's egg hunt event!

Yes, in other people's towns you can buy things from their shops!
To visit other towns, you need to exchange friend codes first though.
Mine's 0216-1935-0893 if you want to visit my town to buy the tools you need. (I'd need your friend code too)

Just keep in mind when you go to other people's towns, don't do anything destructive such as cutting trees down or running through flowers. If a town has paths, do your best to keep on those paths. Other than that, feel free to buy whatever you need!

Unless you're lucky enough to find people in person who play like I did at a Japanese Matsuri and anime conventions last year. I've only done local with strangers a few times, but those times were rather fun, and a nice social gathering!!
