I just made one and was all excited to place it by my Cafe. I've never made this PWP before, but I can't seem to use the qr code I downloaded on it.

Am I doing something wrong? I stand in front of the sign and choose to change the design. When I go to my patterns file all of them are greyed out.

It is just a sign, not a standee. I can change the custom standee PWP to a qr code that I did not make. Why can't I change the sign?

I experimented with using a pro design and a couple of regular ones. None work.

What is going on? I'm very frustrated. I hope I don't have to demolish the sign, but as it is it looks really stupid unless I can change it.

Oh, I also wonder if you have to make a pattern yourself (mine stinks, but I tried to make one) and it was with a secondary character. Even tho the design was mine, it would not let me change the sign. So, does my mayor character have to make one, or what the heck??? >_<

I've found that for some reason, for custom signs it must be as a pattern you make yourself, on that character. However, there are sites that let you change a qr code to allow the game to recognize it as "yours", thus allowing you to edit it and put it on signs.

Oh, my, that is worse than I feared. So, I DO have to make a pattern and with the mayor...

I guess that it is demolish time. I have all the pieces of my path on my mayor and I cannot change it or else screw up my entire town. Unless I can and erase the pattern and get the other one back...

No, I still can't make patterns worth poop. I'll see if I can find a site to change the qr so it will take. I know I saw one before and it looked confusing to do, but it is probably not that bad.

Thank you for the quick response, Troiae. :)

You don't have to demolish it, actually! Once a pattern is on the sign it stays there, even if you edit or delete it in your pattern slots.

Complicated to explain, but:

1) Make a design in the game's editor. It can be just a straight line. It could even be solid white.
2) Have Sable turn it into a QR code.
3) Get it transferred over to your computer, same as you would transfer a screenshot.
4) Go to this site: http://www.thulinma.com/acnl/ and load the image you just transferred.
5) Press the button to copy the creator information.

This is to establish what your creator code is. You are going to now transfer that to the QR code you are wanting to use:

1) Load the QR code somebody else made on that same site.
2) Paste the creator information you earlier copied.
3) The QR code is changed and you can just scan it with Sable.

It's now somebody else's design, but the game thinks it's yours and you can now put it on your sign.

To maybe make it more plain, here's a TBT user named mousehole's instructions for the same task:

http://www.thulinma.com/acnl/

I use this page.
step one: draw a line - anything doesn't matter - and make a qr from the sewing machine.
step two: save your qr in your picture folder
step three: where it says Load ACNL file or QR-image: browse and upload your image
step four: The creator and unique qr code will change, press copy it.
step five: upload the qr code you want to paste on your sign
step six: hit paste creator to put your unique code on it.\
step seven: upload to your ds via sewing machine.
