It could.
It's a great risk because if the session was not ended properly when the person convinced a villager to move to their town, the person adopting will not get the villager in their town. So if you TT to the next day to move the villager out, then the villager will go to the void instead.
This is why if someone is adopting a villager, end the session and have the person TT a day forward in their game and start with a new character to find their plot in their town to ensure that it is successful. This won't screw up your game. (And if the person adopting does this, then in your game, the lights will be off in the moving villager's house with a note that says "Moved Out" and then you'll get the moving letter in the mail the following day.)
So, to be safe, after someone does adopt a villager, make sure they check to see if the moving villager shows up in their town before you decide to TT. I hope this made sense.
