a few questions about the game from a returning player

hi everyone, i played pc from launch to early 2018 i think? (i still have my christmas decorations up from last year haha) i havent touched the game at all since then but ive reinstalled it today to give it another shot. u dont have to answer every question but i was wondering if anyone could help with some stuff cuz im kind of overwhelmed with how much has been introduced

what are fortune cookies?
what do u do in the garden?
is it worth getting back into despite how much ive missed? (i am lvl 44)
any other things/tips i should know?

Fourtune cookies are like loot boxes basically. There are generic Timmy and Tommy cookies that you can buy with bells and then there are the special villager ones that cost leaf tickets.

The garden is mainly used for the gardening event where a NPC asks you to plant special flowers and then catch the creatures that will then spawn on them in exchange for special items. For example the most recent one had Jingle and we had to catch gingerbread butterflies and got gingerbread themed items in return.

When there is no garden event you can plant normal flowers and then try to breed them to get hybrids but that's a little more complicated

IN addition to what's been said about the Garden, there is furniture that you can only get from growing the normal flowers and trading it in that you will need for some late-tier Happy Homeroom classes.
