A few noob questions!

Hey guys! My name is Brooke. I'm obviously new here, this is my first post (but I've been lurking!).. I've been playing since around July 2nd, so I'm still kind of new to it, but I've gotten pretty far.

I've been reading a lot of threads here, and have a few questions. Sorry if these are obvious questions, bare with me here!

1 - How do I get villagers pictures? I'm very close with a few of them.

2 - I've seen people talking about being able to buy their villagers' furniture from their houses. Is this just a random event? Or do I have to unlock it somehow? Whenever I go to anyone's house I can only talk to them, but I don't have any options to buy/ask for anything.

3 - How do I get more friends in the Happy Home Showcase? I like how I can buy things that people have in their houses that way. I have a few 3ds friends, but none are really on that much. (anyone wanna be friends? nudge nudge )

4 - Any opinions on putting grass patterns down everywhere? I did it yesterday, literally took me all day (I am disabled and home bound so I have more time on my hands than I'd like to admit...) and once it was all done, I was not sure if I loved it or hated it. I realized that anything that needed to be dropped on the ground (fruit, bells/ore from rocks, presents from slingshot etc) would disappear if they fell on it. It was also very rough looking around the edges of ponds and things. So I ended up deleting it all this morning...I just hate the way my grass looks. I have so many brown patches. I don't run anywhere in my town, and I have planted flowers/trees on the spots and water them everyday, but its either not doing anything or taking an extremely long time. There seems to be more cons than pros but I loved the way it looked.

Hi Brooke!

1- you just need to have a super close friendship with them. Write them letters and run their errands and find them the things they want. It takes ages but you'll get there!

2- usually when a villager invites you over to their house after you talk to them a while they'll ask if you like anything. Click yes and they'll ask you what. Go up to the item you want to buy and press A and hope they will sell it to you!

3- you only get homes in the HHA by street passing with other players or, if you're in the USA, when Nintendo sends them out

4- personally I don't like grass patterns. In terms of your grass wear. Instead of planting your flowers on the actual dirt spots you want to plant them on the edges and keep watering them. It'll keep the dirt from spreading and after a while should help to shrink the size of the dirt patch by you adding more flowers going towards the centre.

1) You must have befriended the villager to the point where they'll send you random letters, I think, then the next stage is getting their picture. I think they'll do this when they see you and get excited. (This video explains the friendship ladder a bit, but I'm not sure if it's correct)

2) When a villager invites you to their house (they have to invite you, you can't just randomly come in), talk to them until they ask you if you've seen anything you like. They'll let you buy one piece, but some of their furniture is special to them and they won't sell it to you.

3) StreetPass people. I think that's the only way to get people, anyway.

4) Personally not a fan, but it's your town.

Wanted to add, when you go to a villagers house and they haven't invited you then look in their chests of drawers and things, sometimes you get items that way too.

Oh, awesome! Thanks everyone....I was just randomly going in villagers houses trying to buy things lol. I will try next time I'm invited! I do get random letters from villagers a lot so hopefully I will get the pictures. I already had one move out without getting anything I didn't like him much though!

I will also try planting flowers around the patches. I was putting them right on top. Hopefully this works better!

One more question, how do I streetpass with people? I've obviously done it since I have about 4 houses open in HHA, but I have no idea how I did it. Lol.

Edit- thought of another....where do I get bushes from? I think they are awesome! But I don't see them available to buy at the garden shop or island.

The houses you have might be from spotpass. If you're lucky enough to live in the US, you'll get a house in your showcase periodically from Nintendo. For streetpass, you need to have it switched on - it asks you if you want to switch it on, I think when you load up Mii Plaza for the first time?

You can get hibiscus bushes from the island, but they aren't for sale every day. Keep looking, you'll find some And when Nooklings' upgrade to T.I.Y. they will merge with Leif, giving him a larger store where he sells different bushes.

When you have your 3DS on and you pass by other people who have their 3DS on and have ACNL, you'll StreetPass. Like Sour said, the ones you have already might be from SpotPass.

That's cool! Too bad I don't know anybody near me that plays lol. I do live in the US but I don't think I have a Nintendo house there, the 4 I have are random people (who I'm assuming were my friends friends)


I will check the island next time I go. I didn't know the garden shop could upgrade, thats pretty cool. Learning new things everyday!

What are the names of the owners of the houses in your showcase? If we know this, we can figure out if they are sent from Nintendo.

The names are Lindsey, DY, Rich, Krys and Kate.

I know I've seen Rich mentioned as being the owner of one of the spotpass houses. And a google search revealed that there are also some by the name of Lindsey (Autumn), DY (HighNote) and Kate (Lizards). I didn't find anything about Krys.
