Is this a glitch or something? I can’t get them to change their house to what they’re supposed to look like. I feel like Nintendo is hoping we buy more amiibos to get the full features from our villagers.

5 villager houses interior are so basic

do you mean the houses of your first five villagers?
they mostly have DIY furniture, you can gift them furniture and they will place it inside though!
once someone new moves in after your first five they will have their house the way they should look
but I agree, I feel like it takes away from the personality of the villager..
but it also encourages to get more new villagers instead of always keeping the same ones

My guess is Nintendo expect us to cycle through tons of villagers. Thats why the campsite exists. To dangle the carrot. So eventually you wouldn't have your first 5 anymore.
