I can't visit anyone's town :( I've tried restarting the router, restarting the 3ds, playing next to the router, changing DMZ settings and the IP/DMS and all that but I still can't get it to work. Has anyone gotten this error and fixed it without the before mentioned methods I've tried?

Did you update your game? :/

I've updated both the game and my 3DS twice today :(

I see more and more people having this issue (me included) and a good solution has yet to be found.

You could try http://www.nintendo.com/consumer/wfc/en_na/ds/results.jsp?error_code=018-0512&system=3DS&locale=en_US

It worked for a few people.

Every google search has led me to this page and I've tried every method several times. I'm probably just going to try using the IP addresses on my other systems and see where that goes until I find another way.

Hi little! I'm assuming you know your way around a router judging from your opening post. Now some points:

1. Turn off the security of your router. This is NOT a long term solution. Sometimes the tiniest obstacle blocks a connection- I've seen it happen.

2. Recheck that your 3DS is connected to your network. Can you use the browser or send a Swapnote?

3. Will your 3DS connect to other titles during MP or is it limited to New Leaf?

4. It is VERY common that the FIRST time any electronic device tries to connect wirelessly to a Network, it needs a Power Cycle listed in Nintendo's Help Page. Done once, & that device should pair everytime it's within range. Have you done this Power Cycle w/ the 3DS off?

5. Can you go to a different location that has a wireless connection & test if your router is indeed the issue? Btw, you can also use your Smart Phone as a Hotspot!

The objective here is to discover if it's a wireless issue or if your 3DS Wireless receiver is damaged!

Good luck, Little!

I think this is the exact same error code I was getting about a week ago! I was stressing out because I wanted to get my dream villager, Mathilda, and it was not working. I'm not much of a computer/technological person, so I tried the best I could, and it worked! What I did was adjust my DMZ settings the way described, and I updated my game's data after performing a system update. It worked perfectly and now I can Wi-Fi! I don't know what's wrong in your case, though, so I hope you fix it! :(

I've had that error a few times, only with certain people. Once the guy I was trying to wifi with went to a friend's house to use their wifi and it worked, another time I switched to using my phone hotspot and it worked. I haven't tried changing anything in my router though, and it's not happening with every person :/
