There (should be) a little white thing on the side of your SD card, push it up or down then try again. That unlocks it.

I was playing this morning, and got a crazy but quite clever thought. The Bird on top of the message board (outside the town hall) only appears when there is a new post on the board you haven't read yet. Has anyone else noticed this?
