retail trick?? I'd say play the stalk market until you have about 40m then make a board seeking and you'll be able to get him. Keep an eye out though -- sometimes people want to get rid of popular villagers quickly and you might be able to get him for cheaper.

I saw no octopi in my resets and I have heard of many others who have done the same as me and not gotten one. I am 99.9999% percent certain you cannot get them as starters. I've never seen anyone report getting an octopi as a starter in new leaf.

LOL I didn't know they could do this! I don't think the phrase stuffin' really works for anyone aside from the teddy bear stitches xD and "purrr" definitely only works for cats! Guess villagers aren't as picky about their phrases as I am.

Yes, no octopi as starters also. I reset over 50 times for Zucker and got pretty much everyone you can get except him :P Beau is lazy so he's fair game as a starter. Don't settle until you get him! Good luck :)
