How did you go about it. Did you have to restore from backup or is it just the case of installing the download version and carry on playing?

I currently have ACNH on a cartridge but would like to change to the download software. Can I do this without losing all my progress to date. I’ve been playing it for over a year now. Is it just a case of removing the cartridge then purchasing the downloadable version and installing it? Any help...
