Policies on AI-Generated Content

Generative AI content is not allowed to be posted or displayed on The Bell Tree. Discussion threads should contain authentic conversations written by members. Art and other images should come from human creators.

Defining Generative AI

Generative AI is software that generates content based on patterns it learns from data it collects. For example, given a prompt, it can generate new text based on information learned from Wikipedia and even forums like The Bell Tree. It can also generate new images by analyzing real art created by human artists. By doing so, it creates inauthentic content by imitating human communication and creativity. While generative AI can be a useful tool, the content it creates undermines the purpose of discussion forums such as The Bell Tree.

AI-Generated Text

Forum messages should reflect your own thoughts and be written in your own words. Posting AI-generated text to the forum conflicts with The Bell Tree's expectation that all discussions come directly from real people in the community.

AI-Generated Media

Images, videos, and music created by generative AI are not allowed on the forum, including in posts, avatars, and signatures. The Bell Tree highlights human creativity with its events, dedicated art boards, and the overall creative spirit shared by the community. Displaying content generated by AI detracts from that focus, so it will be removed.

AI and Plagiarism

Attempting to present generative AI content as your own work is a form of plagiarism and will result in more serious consequences. This is especially important for The Bell Tree's creative events, where participants are expected to submit work they personally created. Submitting content created by generative AI or by another person may lead to disqualification from the event and additional consequences on the forum.

Allowed Uses of AI

Tools that assist with writing, such as grammar checkers, are allowed. However, they should not be used to generate the content of your posts.
