Getting campers or random move-ins

I get a lot of street passes and do limited trades/sales/visits. Yet every camper or move-in has come from a village I had dealings with. Is it like a virus or something? Can't be coincidence. Just wondering if a moving villager picks up on someone having empty slots. Thanks.

I've been careful about having DS off when out, but didn't know about old town thing. Grrrr

I'm always extremely careful these days when it comes to street passing. I've gotten my girlfriend's reject villagers twice, and it was not fun. Bettina was the worst thing to ever happen to me.
