That Darn Salmon...

Can anybody help me out on how to catch a salmon? That and the Mitten Crab are all that I need to catch, bug and fish wise.

What is it's shadow size? And it can be found by the river mouth, correct? Is it really hard to find? Otherwise, it makes odd sense for it to be a very common fish (as most sites says it is).

Thanks again. I'm really trying here. I managed to find the King Salmon yesterday, so I'm glad that's over with.

It's a large shadow in the river. I'm not sure if it's just river mouth. I think I've caught one mid-river before.
But if you chase off all of the other shadows, it'll give you a better chance to spawn a salmon. ^^

The spawn at the mouth of the river only until September 15th, then they move up the river. I've heard most people just save & continue at the top of their waterfall to get one to spawn.

i wouldn't do this as it can easily corrupt your game

I have never seen anywhere else where this corrupts your game.

Same boat, I need to catch those two as well

The shadow of the salmon is just larger than that of a Black Bass or a carp ... you can catch it in the ocean but only at the mouth of the river where it empties into the ocean, otherwise it is definitely a river fish and you can catch it at all times of the day

I do this as well. Worked for the salmon and the scorpion I needed to catch.

They seem to be reasonably present at the mouth of the river, sometimes the fish there are somewhat hidden at least partially due to the waterfall, but I've managed to catch several regular salmon, and a King Salmon there. Just spend a little time around the area and they will show up. I don't know about others, but for me they tend to spawn on the left side, rather than the right, just for an extra tip; however, it may be different in your case.

Yes, this is true. Saving and quiting can also easily corrupt your game, so i recommend you always quit the game by pressing the Power Off button on the ds

Really? o-o How does it corrupt the game?
And by just pressing power off, you do mean saving (without quitting) beforehand?
Sorry if I seem a bit confused, I've just always save and quit in one go.

I think FriendlyVillager was just being silly...
Your game can corrupt if the game is interrupted while saving though (which I think CR33P was getting at? More saving = more chance to corrupt?). Just don't play while jumping on a trampoline with low battery and you'll be fine.

The game can easily corrupt every time you save. Therefore you should never save the game. When you enter your town at the start of the game, Isabelle will save for you, which is a problem. To avoid corruption, the best way is to never play the game.

But seriously, the quickest way to catch char, salmon and king salmon is by Saving & quitting, but you have to do it standing at the right place.

For char: Stand at the TOP ocean waterfall. Do NOT stand on the beach

For salmon and king salmon: You have to stand on the beach for these to spawn.

Also don't stand right next to the water. Walk a few steps away from the water, then quit & save.

Char and salmon spawn very frequently, so you should get it after only only a few resets. But the king salmon will take a bit longer

I caught all three fish (and a cherry salmon) tonight, it's very fast.

EDIT: My game is September 12. I read that for the second half of September the spawn locations is different

I found both of them when I was fishing on top of the waterfall. I found them both really fast, I didn't even need to save or anything.

I caught them both after a few save and continues.

I think the best method is to stand on the beach and save and continue to get them to spawn. I caught the King Salmon in about 2 minutes doing that, and smaller shadows were spawning as well so I'm sure a regular salmon wouldn't take long either. c:
