question about a villager that's moving in

does anyone know if this villager is able to move one space back? he's put his house here multiple times (i'm trying to plot reset), but i don't know if he's able to move back one space because of the pattern i put down. any ideas?

I have a row of four villagers, that are one space further back than your image.
So it should be ok. ^_^
 
He can, they're just extremely stubborn about it. :[
