Trouble with access point

I am trying to connect to my wifi so I can play with friends on Animal Crossing. For some reason, I get an error message reading: "The access point settings are not supported by the Nintendo DS"

Has this happened to anyone else or does anyone know what the problem is?

Pretty certain this has to do with your router! The 3Ds can only connect through WPA, rather than a WEP protected router... Your internet might be WEP protected.
I'm no expert, so if anyone knows better than me, please say so lol
However, this might point you in the right direction.

Are your game and 3DS both updated?

This usually has to do with your router. It can be due to things like your router blocking ACNL's access by default for security reasons. I remember reading about this ages ago on Nintendo's site but I don't have a link right now. Google the error number and you should find it

Yeah, you probably have a WEP-protected router. I believe you can change it through the router settings.
