As someone who just joined this forum, and just an hour ago visited another player online for the first time ever: Wow, it's really interesting that this is such an uncommon thing that you can ask "would you ever" about it! I guess it really is a whole different game experience once you get used to playing socially, huh?
Someone earlier in the thread mentioned how hard it is to collect all the fruits with just one town... I never noticed, I guess that's true? It took me a few months to get almost all of them in my first ACNL town, but that doesn't feel like a lot to me personally. And it was always super exciting when a villager offered that new fruit as a reward--if I already had them all, I imagine my reaction would have just been "oh wow, a fruit, thanks :|".
It seems like maybe when you play solo you can have a more emotional and narrative connection to the game and your villagers, but when you get into trading and play with lots of other folks it becomes more about the creative aspects (like perfecting your house, designing your village exactly how you want it) instead. I actually never thought about that before, it's really interesting how different that can make it!
This is how I feel about it too! It's so exciting to keep checking the store every day hoping for a certain item and then finally be able to get it, or better yet, maybe one of your favorite villagers happens to offer it to you one day, and it's the best feeling and you love them even more. The surprise and anticipation of it is the fun part! The taking longer to get stuff bit is what keeps me playing, I've discovered. Once I found out about item codes in the Gamecube version, I lost a lot of interest once I had everything I wanted. I have the capability to trade in New Leaf now (I didn't for years), but I only trade within my own towns and I recently started a new town where I play completely solo (no trading or that kind of thing) because I like the challenge of it.
