Leif Erickson was the one who really discovered America.
Actually, the true founder was not even Erikson or Columbus, but I?m thinking Sir Walter Raleigh, whoever settled up Roanoke County. But we didn?t have permanent settlements until 1607 when Jamestown was built.
I mean, we all have Columbus Day even though a) he was overall a pretty terrible person and b) he didn't even actually find America, with Amerigo Vespucci finding it in 1513 and naming it after himself, hence the name America, so overall Columbus Day is pretty trash, but hey, a day off
But really, could we just change the name to something, anything else
Honestly how did this awful guy even get his own holiday? Who tf thought it was a good idea? >__>
But then again America has statues of confederate leaders so you know, this isn't surprising afterall...
That is true. But I would also like to let you know that judging people based on today’s standards is bad. I know what they did was wrong back then, but stuff like this is very common at the time. Nobody’s perfect you know. I mean, we have statues of George Washington, and he owned slaves before. But you’re better off honoring Columbus, Washington, and Lincoln (despite their horrible actions) than you are honoring Donald Trump.
I may not support Columbus, but there’s one bad historical figure I supported - Joseph McCarthy. I even think he’s better than Trump.
Really? McCarthy? He was an idiot who was scared of losing office so he accused fellow politicians of supporting communism. Haven't you heard of McCarthyism?
