This time, he's selling a real Serene Painting and perfect painting. The perfect painting is always real, according to Thonky's guide.

At this rate, my art exhibit in the museum will be completed faster than the fish, bugs and fossil exhibits.
 
Maybe it's a sign that the game wants you to create and keep a permanent second character... x)
I'm missing only one statue and like 2 paintings, it's random but easier than diving at night for those nonsensical creatures... ;v;
 
I actually also got 2 real paintings recently, but I really couldn't care less about paintings so I bought one
