The White House has released the text of the speech the President will give to America's schoolchildren tomorrow.

The link to the full article can be found HERE, or you can Google it. The speech is scheduled for tomorrow (September 8, 2009) at Wakefield Virginia.

Any Thoughts?

I hate all the controversy about this. "OMG HE'S BRAINWASHING OUR CHILDREN!"
No he's not. He's telling kids to stay in school.

Parents in my district have complained about it so their not going to show it to us,which I find completely unfair.

Exactlly my point. People need to stop *****ing over this. He's just doing the regular "Stay in school, kids, drugs are bad" thing, but people manage to misconstrue it into Obama making every kid a Democrat.

I heard on the News earlier that if Parents do not allow their children to go to the first day of school in Wakefield, VA, then the school board there has decided that they will punish and penalize their children. And if they go to school that day, they are forced to go and hear the speech. I think people should have a choice, but all these controversies are blown a little bit out of proportion in my opinion.

But whoever wrote this speech is pretty good at addressing America's youth.

Both sides of the argument are getting insane. Between the ones who want the speech gone, and the ones who want the speech mandatory, people just need to calm down.

Couldn't have said it better myself.

I know and are district NEEDS that speech because half of our schools population is on drugs or has dropped out of school,so it would be like doing us a favor. But I have no idea if its going to Persuade everyone because kids have pleged in that D.A.R.E program not to do Drugs,Smoke,or Drop out of school, but look at them now most of them are on drugs.

Haha, they're showing this at my school tomorrow. My thoughts are: Eh... I don't see why I need to miss 2 classes just to see this speech about staying in school.

You stay in school to watch a speech about staying in school.

;D

I'm not sure what my opinion is this, possibly because I haven't read it. :gyroidconfused:

Geez, are people actually getting worked up over this?

OMG HE"S GUNNA BRAINWASH OUR CHILDREN INTO BEING LIBERAL!1!!!!11!1!!one!!!!11!won!!!1!!1111!!1!11!!

Seriously, he's just telling kids to stay in school.
It sucks, because I doubt I'll be able to see it because our Governor, Tim Pawlenty, says he might not let schools in Minnesota show it. :/ People just need to calm down and stop *****ing.

Which brings up the question, why do we have a conservative governor in a liberal state? :p

Because someone divided by zero.

Lol, good one.

America has built up an irrational fear of communism over the course of the cold war. Obviously, I'm not implying that the US should be communistic, but it's that whenever we see a communist country, we instantly view them negatively.

So whenever Democrats try to do anything that Republicans think is too liberal, they play the "OMG WE'RE TURNING SOCIALIST!" card and scare everyone. It's a disgustingly shallow scare tactic.

I lol'd.

Anyways Pear about the first question, people on BOTH sides are getting their knickers in a twist about the whole matter. I'm a conservative but I still read the speech and see no foul in letting kids hear it. The only problem I had about this whole mess is was in one of my previous posts where Wakefield School Children will be punished if their parents have them skip that day.

President Obama is just reasserting the same ideas that any speaker would say to children about staying in school, but people don't seem to understand that. They think he's twisting the minds of America's youth.

Believe it or not, we're not as easy to sway as a lot of people may think. Let the man speak, but don't punish the parent's children if they decide to let them skip out on something they've heard over and over again.

^ IMO

And with Democrats, the fallback scare tactic is THE GOVERNMENT IS BEING CENTRALIZED!

I was just saying that you can't say that the Republicans rely on scare tactics, because Democrats do them too.
