So, I popped my ACNL cartridge into my old 3DS...

And nearly had a heart attack, because my town wasn't the one to show up on the screen.

I put it back in my new 3DS and it was fine, but that was scary. Does anyone know why that would've happened? My old 3DS isn't as updated, but I didn't think that'd make a difference.
 
I'm pretty sure you need the welcome amiibo update installed on all consoles you wish to play that game. Same thing happened to me just update the system and the game you should be good.

Ooo, thank you! I seem to be having a different issues with my old 3DS sonI'll try to solve that before updating.
 
Your town is connected to the SD card, so if you have another console where you transferred all of your data, the previous console will think that you never played that game on it before. I would copy the data from one SD card to another and make sure both consoles are on the same firmware version.

No it isn't. It's because the old 3DS isn't updated.

That's not true, they're stored completely in the cartridge. That's why you can have multiple copies of acnl.
