In my two towns, I have Hazel and Shari. Hazel isn't as bad as people say, but I was disappointed when she first showed up (she was an early one the game moved in on its own), because I was expecting a different villager. I wasn't aware of the name shift. I might swap her out at some point, though, if I see someone else I'd like better.
Shari is a sweetheart and I don't plan on letting her move.

For uchi villagers I personally prefer Plucky, Pashmina, Deirdre and Fuchsia in that order.
