Worst Region/Worst Generation?

Kalos and gen 6 are the worst for me. They're the most forgettable tbh and the least interesting. The games ans region felt rushed to me and I didn't give a crap about any of the characters in the game due to their lack of development. Barely any new Pokemon either. Just a disappointment all around. Sold the game as soon as I beat it and haven't missed it yet. I honestly keep forgetting the game and region exists lmao.

Totally agree with you. I voted Kalos and 6th Gen for the same reasons. Lamest, most boring story, worst antagonist ever. I mean really, his motives were just so stupid. Destroy the world to make it beautiful... If you ask me, Malva should have been the leader of Team Flare and her motives could have been that she, for the first time in any antagonist, despised, or harbored a deep fear, of Pokemon and saw absolutely no use or benefit to them. She would want to rid the world of these creatures who pose a threat to mankind. Her character development would have been deep and she would have been the first female antagonist.

The rivals, especially Calem/Serena, were so bland. I didn't care about any of them.

Kalos DID do one thing right... Dedenne:blush::blush::blush:

Malva was one of the more likeable characters in X and Y, she was a sassy queen and she definitely should have been a more notable character outside of the Elite Four.

I've only played a couple of pokemon games, but out of all the ones I played Hoenn was the most boring to me. I was never able to get into it. The landscape and the pokemon were just really boring to me. A few months ago I went and restarted the game, and I'm still not as into it as I was some of the other games I played.

I'm so glad to see someone agree with me

I have less fond memories of gen 2 than I do of gen 5. I liked the atmosphere of gen 2 but it just didn't catch my attention. It felt boring and the difficulty curve was strong, I had to farm for hours at multiple points of the game. Gen 3 is where the series really picked up again for me. I also enjoyed gen 4. Gen 5 was "not bad", didn't really enjoy it but it wasn't terrible.

Gen 6 and Gen 7 were fun in their own ways, and not so great in other ways. I guess my favourite would have to be gen 4. Gen 3 is like the world I live in today, interesting, fun, but leaving some things to be desired (compared to gen 4).

:(.

Personally I could first play thru any game for 100 plus hours ( well if it's gen 4 up I don't own a 3 ) but hoenn was the first game I ahem "Got" and well I played it ( and replayed) it so much that my altairia got to lvl 100 But.. on the topic of least favorite / worst sinnoh's music " Brafaronie!!!" It was Soo bland.. the 4 had same boring song as gym leaders.. but that's only the music i'd say kaleos they did bring megas.. new fosuls.. but it was overall weak.

Alola and Gen 7. Honestly, for me, Sun and Moon are my least favorite Pokemon games I've ever played.
The story was overall meh, the NPCs partially annoying (I hate Lillie so much), Alola with it's running from
one island to another just dumb and the majority of Pokemon from this Gen are lame. There are probably
only a handful I actually liked. It's the first time where I tortured myself through the game just to finished
the main story and that's it. I didn't wanted to spent any minute longer into these game, as my motivation
was already gone before I even reached the champion.

Kanto and generation one. I know it's kind of odd to say that the generation and region which started Pok?mon is the worst, but to me it is. Every other region has something that makes it different, something inspiring. Meanwhile, Kanto is just boring af.

Even if it wasn't for genwunners, I would still dislike Kanto and gen 1 the most out of all of them. lmao

I never liked Unova, it always felt different to me than all the other main series games. It was the first main series game that made me think "Is this really a Pokemon game?" Generation 5 as a whole was awful too because all it had was an underwhelming B/W and B2/W2

Gen 1 and Kanto is so overrated, it gets boring at one point if Gen 1 Pokemon and Kanto getting more attention and extras (like Alola forms) than the other Gens.

I kinda love and hate Gen 6/Kalos. On the one site, I had fun playing X/Y, on the other site, Kalos was half enjoyable and I only like 20% of the Pokemon that got introduced in this Gen. Besides this, I found the story kinda short and the evil team here was pretty lame.

Personally, for me Gen 7/Alola are the worst. There are just so many things I hate about this Gen and the games overall.

Least Favorite Region

It's sort of a toss-up between Kanto, Kalos, and Sinnoh.

Kanto has been overdone by now and lost its luster, especially since they dialed back the creep factor of Lavender Town after R/B/Y. It's a fine region on its own, but they kind of ran it into the ground with remakes, overexposure, and pandering.

Kalos, I actually like the region for the most part. I like the aesthetics, the Pok?mon introduced (such as favorites like Malamar and Gourgeist), I liked the introduction of trainer customization, I liked how much easier it was to IV breed, I liked Lysandre, and I loved Super Trainining for making EV Training fast and easy. What really hampers it is how easy X & Y are compared to the games that came before it. The Elite Four don't even boost their levels for rematches. I enjoy the journey and then there's just nothing to do afterward except breed things for other playthroughs of other games.

Sinnoh isn't that bad, but it's probably the least memorable region for me. Additionally, I don't know if it's just my Platinum copy but it seems like saving takes longer than it did in R/S/E/LG/FR or in HG/SS. The journal that pops up whenever you start the game is kind of annoying. I also really dislike that a portion of the game is locked off to you unless you trade with other people and have a complete Pok?dex. Oh, and the requirements to get Spiritomb.

It's probably an answer that could change from day to day for me, but right now I'd say Sinnoh is my least favorite. A shame too, love all three of the starters and I liked that it was a colder region. It just does the least for me.

Least Favorite Generation

It kind of has to be Generation 1 at this point. The series has advanced too much by now (physical/special split, shinies, wi-fi, etc.) for it to be anything else. I started with Red and Blue back when they first came to the US, but they're archaic now and hold no interest for me as far as revisitation goes. If I even ever felt the desire, there's always Fire Red and Leaf Green, which even offers more content like the Sevii Islands.

---

As for my thoughts on the other generations:

Generation 2 snatched up all of the nostalgia of the olden days for me, as Crystal is what kept the spark of my love for the series alive when I took a break from the series from Generation 3 until HeartGold and SoulSilver came out and I got back into the series. It should, technically, suffer from being too archaic at this point as well, but I haven't felt the need to play the original versions in years so they live on in my memory as good.

Generation 3 added a bunch of great Pok?mon and had some fun mechanics. I had initially skipped out on them due to peer pressure and coming to that age where you want to leave childish things behind, but I went back and played them years later and they're enjoyable.

Generation 4 would have been a contender for worst if it was just the Sinnoh games, but HeartGold and SoulSilver were also part of this generation and they're some of my favorite games in the series.

Generation 5 is one of my favorites. Unlike most other people apparently, I was fine with them starting fresh with an entirely new Pok?dex. It was my first new experience with the series since I returned after my years long break with HeartGold and SoulSilver, so I was totally open to the idea. I love the Pok?mon they introduced in Generation 5, the story was fine, they added the Pok?mon World Tournament in B2/w2, and you can just transfer up the older Pok?mon if you so desire. It was also the first set of Pok?mon games where I could utilize the wi-fi function and I loved it.

Generation 6, like Generation 4, is saved by the remakes Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire carrying the weight for X & Y, though to a lesser degree because I find X & Y has a few more positives than D/P/Pt did despite being too easy.

Generation 7 initially left me very disinterested because it, again, was too easy with the intiial Sun and Moon. Despite having a weaker story, I came to appreciate Generation 7 far more with Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon. I now really love the Festival Plaza and how much customization you have with the colors at the dye shops (although I wish you could host more facilities at once), I really like how fast it is to EV Train with the Power Items in combination with Pok?rus. It went from a contender for worst generation to actually being pretty good.

There's something to be said for the part of the team that handles the remakes/second versions. HG/SS, B2/W2, OR/AS, US/UM, they're some of the best experiences as far as I'm concerned.

I would rank them in this order, from worst to least worst in my perspective:

1. Sinnoh
2. Kalos
3. Alola
4. Kanto
5.Hoenn
6.Unova
7. Johto

Sinnoh:
To me, Sinnoh was the most boring region out of the others. The music was so dull and uninspired that most of the times, when I played Pok?mon Platinum, I would fall asleep. I had to mute the sound to avoid this. On the bright side, it helped me go to sleep really quickly when I had trouble falling asleep. The pacing was also really slow from walking at a snail pace to surfing and even saving your game took long. And I couldn't get into the story, either because everything else was so bland or because the story itself was uninteresting. I also really hated that you'd keep seeing the same 10 Pok?mon scattered throughout the region. I got so sick of encountering Bidoof, Starly, Shinx, and Ponyta EVERYWHERE, except in the water. There were not enough variety of Pok?mon in the grass. I thought making it really far into the game would reward me with newer encounters , but instead it was mostly the same ones appearing. Ugggghhhhhh. I remember being really frustrated at that aspect.

Kalos:
I really hate tutorials in games, especially if they're forced. Let me just play the game, I'll figure out the rest as I go, or I'll look it up, jeez. The villains for this game along with their motives were just boring. The music wasn't that great, either, in my opinion, though there are some I did like and downloaded. The region itself wasn't that interesting either, so, to say the least, I only played this game and beat it once and haven't looked back. Also, Pokebank hate the idea of having to pay real cash to trade old digital Pok?mon to your newer games or store extra digital Pok?mon on cloud, especially when there's better cost effective ways to do this without having to pay a subscription.

Alola Region:
Now I like Pokemon Sun and Moon, it had a really interesting plot, great music and I absolutely loved the idea of Beast Pok?mon from other dimensions and Alolan forms, but I didn't like the loooong tutorial it took to finally get to play the game.

Kanto:
I love that you can play the game without any forced tutorial (not including Fire Red. Let's Go doesn't exist.) Gary is my favorite rival along with N. Team Rocket are my favorite villains. There were so many Pokemon encounter variety and I liked the Pokemon casino and safari zone. I still don't get why they'd remove the casino from Pokemon games because it supposedly encourages gambling, yet not a word is heard from parents about Pokemon Shuffle. The gym leaders were all interesting, the music was fantastic and there was a sense of mystery to the game when I first played it. But it is a short game compared to the others and it's in a really small region. Organizing your items was a pain, too. All in all I still like it and I can see myself replaying it again.

Hoenn:
I loved the introduction of rain. I loved the aspect of diving in this game it further added a sense of mystery to the game. I really love the ost, hearing the music motivates me to press foward. In my opinion, the Hoenn region had the best soundtrack out the rest. I liked that your dad was a gym leader, but they could've used that to make a better story focusing on the player trying to meet his father's standards and realizing his own place in training or something along those lines. I liked the secret bases and I loved collecting furniture to decorate them with. Hoenn had a lot of aspects I liked about it, that being said, I wish Omega Ruby/Alpha Sapphire added the Jhoto region as it was originally planned in Sapphire/Ruby but cut off due to complications. Wally wasn't interesting, I wouldn't mind wally if they added more interesting side characters you kept encountering throughout your adventures. I hwar a lot of complaints about how much water or surfing you had to do in this game, but it didn't bother me, if anything it added to the sense of adventure like in Windwaker. The main villains weren't that interesting, but they were funny sometimes, I guess.

Unova:
I really liked the plot for this game, I liked your rivals/friend, the main villains were really interesting this time, the music was really good and overall, I really enjoyed this game. It's main faults are having nurses in forest or caves to heal you, making an already easy game even easier, so I just pretended they weren't there. I wish the Cruise ship at least took you to an island were you could encounter new and rare type of pokemons and buy exclusive items, ect (if adding another region wasn't plausible), instead of just taking in in circles, Some of the mons seemed like filler. Other than that, I really liked this region, too and I guess I can see myself playing it again.

Jhoto:
Near perfect! Apricorn pokeballs, 2 regions to explore, lots of Pokemon variety, lots of gym battles, double the badges to collect, more to do, introduction of berries, pal park was really fun, caves were fun to explore too as there was a lot of sense of mystery to them, the music was really good, day and night Pokemon made catchup pokemon even more fun. The only downers I can think of is removing the safari zone and viridian forest. Graphics don't bother me, so I can go back to the old ones just as much as Heart Gold and Soul Silver. I think I had the most fun playing this region and maybe Hoenn.

Not sure if my dislike for Kanto comes from the fact it's been overused at this point or just how tedious Genwunners are, but it's up there along with Alola. Gen 7 was dire- it felt completely empty, the game was like one big, long, never-ending tutorial and it felt very much "REMEMBER THAT TIME? BACK IN KANTO? REMEMBER, HUH?".

Kind of surprised that Kanto/Gen 1 has the most votes.

Personally, I feel the same.

For one, I feel it's simply just very over rated. It seems to get the most hype and the most attention and I don't think it's so special as to deserve it. I know exactly why, because it has the most nostalgia attached to it, it appeals to the same people who haven't watched Dragonball Z or played GTA:Vice City since they were kids and will still demand they totally hold up and are totally the best "thing"...The people that can't accept things they're nostalgic for maybe just aren't very good these days.

In terms of gameplay of the original (not the remakes) it's a very dated experience with a ton of bugs and mechanics that simply just don't work properly. The sprites are god awful, the general design is bland and repetitive and it's missing a lot of QoL features that I kind of just expect from these types of games that lead to a more irritating experience. Things like having to go to the move deleter to get rid of HM's, the general need to have HM's, psychic not having a true weakness due to the game just not working as intended.

In regard to the Pokemon themselves, I feel it has the most bland lineup. As time has gone on Pokemon have looked more and more 'fantastical' to me, more of what I feel a Pokemon really should be. Gen 1 however just has a lot of Pokemon that are "just a rat but purple", "just a snake but purple", "just a turtle but blue" and "just a bird. That's it, just a bird". There are still a few really cool designs in there but generally they're just overly simplistic to the point I find it hard to even call a few of them 'designs', they're just "thing that actually exists" but drawn in a certain artstyle.

I would say gen 7/Alola is my second least favourite.

The game itself was like one huge overly coddling tutorial. You could get stopped and told some information by a character in a cutscene, then get stopped and told that information again after the cutscene by the same character, only to have another character stop you 5 steps away and tell you that same information again, then have the Rotom Pokedex stop you again another 5 steps away to remind you of that information you've been told 3 times already as well as put a reminder of what you're doing on the screen and highlight it on the map. It was ridiculous, patronising and treated the player like a moron.

Additions such as telling you what moves are good/bad against the Pokemon you're currently fighting took away what little thought was required in a series that's never been particularly difficult and removed the need for new players to even bother learning the strengths/weaknesses of types.

The removal of typical gyms was a neat idea but it just didn't work well in my opinion. The rideable Pokemon in place of HM's was a step in the right direction but again I felt it didn't work.

One version of the game being 12 hours ahead was a stupid idea and highlights how unnecessary and redundant having 2 versions of a Pokemon game is in *insert current year*. They'll continue releasing 2 versions since enough people will buy both versions but ultimately it's not needed, the purpose of two versions is redundant when we can trade online and they're continuously dropping the ball in coming up with a worthwhile gimmick to make 2 versions more than just a way to milk fans.
This is only made worse by the fact there were 2 versions of the what is essentially a 'directors cut' with Ultra Sun/Moon. This trend just needs to die.

Alolan forms of Pokemon was neat but it just focused on Gen 1 Pokemon again. This killed the appeal for me.

So yea, the two gens/regions I hate the most are one due to age and being a product of its time, the other because they're consistently trying to appeal to everybody and not getting rid of dated traditions whilst simultaneously trying to reinvent the wheel.

Alola is definitely my least favorite region. It just was too hand holdy, I hated the trials and would rather have gyms, and the story was only okay. I think Kanto gets way too much attention, but I wouldn't say it's my least favorite by any means.

Johto and Gen 2. The only things in Johto memorable for me are The Elite Four (also Jasmine and Whitney.) And the Pokemon of course. Nothing else.

Pokemon X was my very first Pokemon game and I went back to play Black & White/Black & White 2, and found it underwhelming. I'd have to say my worst region had to be Unova, with Alola coming in close second (even though I enjoyed a lot about it, I wasn't really a fan of it), and my worst generation had to be 5.
