Perfect fruit regression?

Hello!

I was recently gifted some perfect fruit (apples, cherries, pears) by a lovely player I had visit my town, and was very excited to plant them. I did, and the trees all grew, but the fruit they produce is normal. I don't particularly mind, especially as I had no normal cherries in my town, but just wondering if this is what happens when you plant perfect fruit from another town, or is it a glitch?

Only your native fruit can be perfect, planting perfect foreign fruit only gives you normal fruit. It's not a glitch.

Thanks! I was quite confused but I don't mind at all. I will await my perfect fruit!
