I've had a couple of dark realisations about Animal Crossing in the past week, so decided to make a thread asking - what are some of yours?

Mine are:

1. You are the only human. Why have you put animals in houses? Are they slaves? Are you /their/ slave? The latter would make more sense considering how many chores they make you do.. And not to mention paying for /their/ pwps! None of the animals seem to have debts to Nook..

2. A small one, just realised now on the island: When you scare away a tiger beetle or whatever it is, it literally jumps like 5 times its length and disappears. How scared did you make that thing?!

Here's something dark for you:. Coco is basically a reanimated dead body because gyroids are used to mark graves in Japan. Also, logically, Ankha and Lucky are dead as well.

I think they don't have debts with Nook because their houses are so small, and they just don't expand any longer. :p
I never knew that about the Gyroids.. kinda creepy.

True :)

Also why are all the business characters the same in every town o.o Are they a big corporate chain business or just humans in suits? ;oooo conspiracy lol

Well, never mind my plan of having a gyroid in front of my house in real life.

But that sounds like a great trio for a haunted town!

There are cows named Patty and Angus.
There is a horse named Elmer.
Tangy is a LITERAL ORANGE, and villagers will eat oranges. TANGY WILL EAT ORANGES.

Also realty prices have skyrocketed lately, haven't they? Back in the day they weren't as expensive. I guess that all changed when the fire nation turned flipped my life upside down.

I thought the same about the horse named Elmer, but the cow names and Tangy completely flew over my head.

I always find it weird how you could catch an octopus and frog while there are frog and octopus villagers. Or how you can have a doghouse when there are dog villagers living in normal houses in the game.

And you can also give a bird cage with a bird in to a bird villager...

What about the hamster cage and have hamster villagers living in your town.

Why can the animals talk in different languages or talk in general? Also what about the NPCS who are absent from game, why'd they just dissapear all of a sudden? (ex. Serena and Champ) although Serena played a vital role in getting the golden axe and Champ is one of the only villagers who didn't return to new leaf even though he was in previous games. Tom Nook is weirdly lenient with the amount of time to pay rent for somebody who appears to be all about business.

So if gyroids are grave markers...is your village on top of an old graveyard??

I think I read a theory somewhere that you are actually dead and in limbo or something... the whole town being dead is a cool idea. I love the gyroids and I put them all over my town and inside my buildings :'D

That would be interesting if we are in limbo. Maybe that could explain why you never reply to your mom's letters, because they're just her putting them on your grave.

Woah that's kinda scary to think about.
But what about the times when the mum says stuff like "I heard you were expanding!" how would she know that?

Woah o.o I always thought he was a bit too flirty towards my character lol.

Loving all these replies! Another one, not really dark, but worth mentioning - If it's a Japanese game, and they were gonna pick one skin colour for us all to be, why aren't we Asian? Why are we all white..? If anyone can actually answer this that'd be cool lol

Woah. I never even thought about how Elmer got his name. (Probably because I had a hobby horse named Elmer when I was a kid. I don't remember who named him, or if the reason had anything to do with glue.)

There's also Rasher, named after a rasher of bacon.
