my antivirus program has stopped and removed Suspicious Malware and stuff like that a few times, also when i was like 10 i never read through everything while downloading so i accidentally let some programs install a bunch of unnecessary things but it wasn't a vieus so eh. now every time i download something i make sure that it doesnt install weird or unnecessary things
but i dont think i have ever had malware or a virus that ruined anything so yay

Not really, I was always a nervous child and made sure not to download or click things I didn't need to while online. Now that I'm older I don't worry about it at all.

Back in 2004 I played a lot of Neopets and the laptop I was using (my Dad's spare at the time) became infected. I've been a lot more careful with my own devices based on that experience.

Not many times since I'm aware of what to avoid and if I do happen to get any, I deal with it.

It's rare though.

I had some nasty viruses... some not to see clearly from the eye.. even not for scanners... but luckily i was able to remove it!

yes.

it was back early this year , around january or march , i downloaded something people recommended (smh never trusting in anyone on the internet) and suddenly it opened a program to "delete virus" and other ****. after deleting some programs , another one called chronium started popping out and making the computer go slow af. hours later i check where that program was , then i disconnect the router from the PC (because i think thats how the virus executed) and just delete the trash program , my PC has been okay after that event.

I accidentally infected the family desktop with a trojan back in 2007 and I feel like that's the exact moment my life started going downhill

Nah. Adware, sure, but that's about it.

Do you have Adobe Flash enabled by any chance? JavaScript can no longer prevent shortcut keys (unless you travel back to the '90s) and escape can be used to free the mouse cursor. Odds are you got redirected by a malcious advert. People use AdBlock for a reason, you know - Wikia's a bit dodgy at the least.

I don't have AdBlock, if it's free I'll probably go and download it. I would've use Task Manager (ctrl + alt + delete) to escape the pop-up, but I got frazzled by the over-loud siren and forgot what keys to press. Stupid me! :)

My sister downloaded a game on a dangerous site and there were many viruses. I had to put the computer through a factory reset. It's fine now, thankfully.

Well yeah. I mean, it's hard to never encounter a virus when you've been using computers regularly for years. Almost impossible even.

My bf got a really bad one by accidentally clicking on an add from a computer virus security article. Oh the irony.

Oh yes. IMVU destroyed one of my old computers. Also another laptop crashed because of someone in my house not being careful with porn and viruses...

Well, a few made their way to my computer, but nothing happened because of my malware protection.
I think the only one that actually affected anything was a bad program that changed my search engine.

Edit: I just remembered after reading through this thread. I downloaded music as a kid before I knew of Spotify and one of the albums had this .exe that would open itself with every startup and went fullscreen, so it looked like "the police detected illegal data on your computer. Enter a PaySafeCard for $5 or face jailtime" or something stupid like that. It wasn't really a virus though, just a program that I learned to close and delete eventually. Took me like two weeks. xD

YES. I used to go on a lot of iffy sites, and music/movie torrenting stuff as a kid and totally destroyed my first laptop. Started with constant pop-ups, tabs and windows I didn't open and the like. It ended up getting totally locked up to where if I turned it on it would just show my background and not even boot. I had to have all my stuff carefully extracted by my mom's computer savvy boyfriend and it worked but it was really old at that point so wasn't really even worth using. Now I have preventive stuff on my computer but it's not like I'm browsing the shady places of the web anymore so thankfully I don't have to worry as much. My friend got a ransom virus before on a computer she was renting so she had to bring it back to be wiped, it was really weird, I remember her telling me about it and then she showed me when I went to her house, it had the whole credit card thing on the front when she went to boot it and it wouldn't let her exit or access her stuff unless she input a credit card. Pretty crafty scams we have these days.

Ok but whenever I see this topic I read it like you encountered a computer virus in like, the wild or smth :,)

When I was younger, I used to get them more frequently. I started being really careful in high school, although I remember one time I was trying to watch Cowboy Bebop and the site I was watching it on installed a virus. Since then I haven't had any, that I know of, on my computer. I have 3 adblocks and run an anti-virus every week but even I know that it's not always enough. I'm careful about what kind of attachments I open, even from people I know. If someone was really intent on infecting your computer, it's nearly unavoidable.
