What happens when you reset?

I got this game when I was 8 so I didn't bother with making it look pretty I just played it lol. I want to make my town look nice but houses are just randomly spread everywhere, I chose an awful map etc. The thing is I'm going to lose all my money and I managed to save up 20 mil (probably doesn't seem like a lot but to me it is XD)

I heard with the new update you can keep all your money or sell it to Nook something like that, can someone clarify this?

If you've had your town long enough and your town is good enough, you can sell it to Tom Nook where he'll give you money for it and you can keep your pwp list. Also you have to have updated your game to the welcome amiibo update and have met whisp.
