I HATE IKEA.
They built an Ikea across the street from the Mall Of America, and honestly I can't even remember why, but something was just goofy about it. It wasn't quite a Walmart or Target style department store, yet not a Sears or Macy's, and not that every shopping center has to follow the same format, but my first time in this place I felt trapped. Both mentally, and physically-in the literal fashion. Let me explain.
I went there with my friend's wife and her friend, while he was in the Army, stationed in Afghanistan. She thought it would be a great idea to check out this new Ikea. I think she'd been there before, and liked it, though. But while I was in there, something about the design and layout made me think it was strategically built to make me spend money that I didn't want or need to spend. Which, is common. There's all kinds of scientific tricks used by restaurants, stores, casinos, such as carpet designs, branding with certain colors, I'd have to google more examples, but they make you spend, spend, spend. So it's not like this is a completely foreign idea.
The scary part, was when I told the two girls that I was just gonna head outside and wait for them in the car/parking lot. But there was no way out... I followed the exit signs, and they only led me deeper into the store. Eventually I ended up in this giant warehouse area with only employees. I backtracked, and persevered through the maze until FINALLY I found my way out. I don't know how I did it, but I'm here to tell you the story, so I must've made it somehow.
Never been in there since. It's a giant black hole of consumerism.
