Can anyone tell me about IKEA? In Memphis, which is about three hours from where I live, an IKEA just opened, and I always just thought it was a furniture store and that's it, but I found out they also have food products there and so forth. Some experience would be nice to know about!:)

I believe they sell plants and plush dolls. Other than that, I haven't ever see anything unrelated to furniture.

I LOVE IKEA. They have like, entire (small) furnished rooms in the IKEA I go to. They have something like a small food court to eat in, but also sell some really cool foreign foods there. All sorts of foods, snacks, frozen foods, seasonings. Much of it seems European at my IKEA. Who knows what they'll have at yours! They usually have an awesome selection of both live and fake plants. The store has SO MUCH. I absolutely love mine, and I'd hope that all IKEA locations can live up to their reputation. I suggest you check it out!

They have stuffed animals as well, like Bowie said. Most of it is furniture, but you'll also find lots of household gadgets and accessories. Off the top of my head, you might find half the stuff you'd see at a Home Depot, if you know the place. And I don't believe they sell any clothing.

I LOVE IKEA. The closest one to me is 4 hours. They have a variety of furniture, home decor, to home renovations, like counter tops.

They also have a restaurant, and their meatballs are suppose to be good

IKEA is a great place to look around. I made a couple trips some months ago to get some new furniture for my room and the selection is pretty nice to browse through. They have showrooms that you can walk into to give you some home inspiration, that's probably my favourite part, most of the room displays are modern and simple in design, or at least from what I've experienced. They actually have fantastic prices on home decorations too, like cushions and rugs for fairly cheap. It's hard not to pick anything up whenever I visit.

As for their food, it's pretty good. I tried their traditional Swedish meatballs with gravy and it was delicious, and another time I had some sort of raw salmon wrap with a weird sauce that was okay, wasn't too fond of the sauce because I found it too sweet, but overall it was still tasty. I guess it's something you'd need to try for yourself and see what they have on their menu, but from what I've experienced their food tastes fresh and it's always been clean. Except the one thing I didn't like was their cutlery... I think it must be quickly steam-cleaned and I'm always extremely paranoid about clean eating utensils so I can be nit-picky.

I have never tried the IKEA food but I heard some of their meat was undisclosed horsemeat a while back??? IDEK.

Haha I heard that too but I think I heard it was just in Russia? And it was a few years ago.

I love Ikea - I've owned a decent amount of items from there. My comforter is from there and it's the best one I've ever had, hands down. I HATE going there though. It's always so crowded and people don't know how to navigate their carts... it's pretty infuriating.

The food IS pretty good, although I've only had the meatballs, the ice cream and some of the candies.

I love IKEA! They have frozen yogurt for like a dollar here in Canada. And hot dogs for around $1.20. They also have a cafeteria with pretty decent cheap food. And they sell lots of Swedish candy/chocolates, etc. ^_^ I mean, I wouldn't drive 3 hours to get there though :p But if you wanted to go furniture shopping for some cheap stuff, it's a pretty good place to go.

IKEA is the Swedish word for "cheap crap made in China."

as others noted, if you do have to go there, the cafeteria has cheap but tasty food like swedish meatballs, spaghetti, and chicken fingers. you can get lingonberry soda to drink. theres a downstairs quick bite lane with cinnamon rolls, swedish coffee, german chocolate bars, hot dogs for a buck, that type of thing, and a very small grocery section with pantry and frozen foods from sweden like potato pancakes, elderberry jam, sardines in mustard sauce, mulled wine et cetera...

good luck finding your way back to human civilization. that amazing place is like a maze in there. once you go in, it'll take you hours to get back out. at least the one nearby is.

and when i mean amazing i mean aMAZEing

Honestly, I've personally found IKEA furniture to be better quality than the el cheapo furniture sold in stores like Walmart, Target, etc. Yeah, it's still not super high quality, but it's still better quality than you'd think for the price.

They're not just a furniture store. They sell all kinds of home-related decorations and gadgets too. I got a few good kitchen items (cooking is one of my hobbies) there.

oh yeah, i did get a bunch of martini glasses there now that you mention it!

IKEA, selling furniture for college kids and divorced men. :p I love IKEA, they sell cheap furniture made of particle board but it's surprisingly sturdy. You can find just about anything you'd ever need for a home and it won't break the bank. Stores are massive and structured like a maze but have a cafeteria to eat at once you inevitably get hungry from walking around for hours. Get the Swedish meatballs they're 10/10.

Edit: Forgot to mention all the furniture they sell is flat pack and requires assembly.

Yeah, it's not like I'm just burning to drive three hours to go there, but I figured it might be worth a stop if I'm ever around the area.:)

I like pretending that I live in their show rooms. But you have to pretend you have like 50 room mates as well -_- (it's super crowded all the time) I don't really go for the cafeteria food since it made me sick one time and I was slightly traumatized. Our IKEA near us just got a huge upgrade to the plants and gardening section, it's really nice

I've never been to one but always wanted to go, I know some of their stuff is really cheaply made cause I've seen videos of people taking furniture apart to make other things and once there was this really cute table that looked like it had this thick solid top but it was just a really thin piece of wood over a bunch of cardboard, literally... Kind of sad but yeah. I know that they have like meatballs there, that's what people have always told me, but yeah again, I've never been there. I've looked online at their stuff before though...

If you have never been to IKEA, then you haven't truly lived. I remember going there as a kid and i remember that it was like heaven for some reason.

I HATE IKEA. :D They built an Ikea across the street from the Mall Of America, and honestly I can't even remember why, but something was just goofy about it. It wasn't quite a Walmart or Target style department store, yet not a Sears or Macy's, and not that every shopping center has to follow the same format, but my first time in this place I felt trapped. Both mentally, and physically-in the literal fashion. Let me explain.

I went there with my friend's wife and her friend, while he was in the Army, stationed in Afghanistan. She thought it would be a great idea to check out this new Ikea. I think she'd been there before, and liked it, though. But while I was in there, something about the design and layout made me think it was strategically built to make me spend money that I didn't want or need to spend. Which, is common. There's all kinds of scientific tricks used by restaurants, stores, casinos, such as carpet designs, branding with certain colors, I'd have to google more examples, but they make you spend, spend, spend. So it's not like this is a completely foreign idea.

The scary part, was when I told the two girls that I was just gonna head outside and wait for them in the car/parking lot. But there was no way out... I followed the exit signs, and they only led me deeper into the store. Eventually I ended up in this giant warehouse area with only employees. I backtracked, and persevered through the maze until FINALLY I found my way out. I don't know how I did it, but I'm here to tell you the story, so I must've made it somehow.

Never been in there since. It's a giant black hole of consumerism.
