Guide: Watch DVD movies(or any movie or video) on Wii U and New 3DS

This is a really intriguing work around for a function that is bizarrely missing from the Wii U. Though, they claimed that almost everyone at this point has a dvd player already, so they kept the cost of the system down by not including that technology. I can understand that I guess. That also makes me question why anyone would really want to go through this just to watch a dvd. You're using a computer to download this software and rip the dvd, why not just watch it on your computer, or even find a site to stream it online? Seems a bit convoluted.

Well, I see your point but:
Streaming the movie from a site is illegal
It's not really intriguing, it's kinda easy, and not everyone has a DVD Player, or just want watch to watch it the gamepad.
Also i would like to watch movies in my bed instead of at my PC. Also setting up Plex isn't really hard
Also I think you can use Plex outside the house so you could watch movies and a restaurant, and you can watch a 3D movie

Ah yeah I can see the use for setting this up on a 3DS for the mobility. But ripping a copyright protected dvd is illegal too, so it's not much better than streaming in terms of legality. As long as you use streams and not torrents to watch movies online, there's not much to worry about if you're worried about getting caught.

Um No, you are doing this for private use only(you aren't giving it to people for free), if I ripped the DVD and uploaded the .mp4 to the Internet, it would be illegal, but not if I just ripped it for myself and my family. Also if you have a ISP like Cox they will SHUT DOWN your Internet for watching movies from a streaming site

Yeah, you *could* watch movies but who would want to? Why not just on your computer or television?

Please note that we do not allow threads or posts that contains or promotes hacking information, viruses, or harmful computer software, pornography, nudity, sexual material, or any other obscene content.

As for everyone else, if you think a thread breaks the rules, report it. Several members have pointed out how this thread contains "illegal information" yet no one bothered to report it. It'd be greatly appreciated by myself, and the rest of the site staff, if users would use the report button and refrain from posting in questionable threads, even if they are unsure if a thread breaks any rules.
