so i’ve tried to and gotten the option for them wanting to move in but then they all just decline it. i’m not sure if it’s because i have the max villagers, thought i saw somewhere you could kick them out using amiibo

You have to invite them for 3 days and craft a DIY item for them each day. On the 3rd day, they will want to move to your town after you craft them an item.

can confirm, I've done this with Robin and Sprocket already

Yes, it's a bit of a chore, but at least we can Amiibo anyone we want in (and therefore, kick someone else out).

And if your island isn't maxed out with villagers and you have open spaces, and you don't have a plot for them ready (via 'Sell some land' with Nook) after they've been convinced to move in, they will say that they called Nook and that they are annoyed that there is no room for them.

However, if you go back into RS and buy/place a plot, the camper will say that they just got an update from Nook saying that there must have been some sort of error, which has been sorted out, and they can proceed to move in now that there is room for them.

Or, something along those lines.

Don't do it, though, because there's an infamous, game breaking glitch that is infuriating to "workaround"
No, not just from adopting. i got this from inviting an amiibo villager into my own town.

yes i have seen that giving the DIY option will allow them :) i’ll try it!

I kicked out an existing villager
OP mentioned they had max villagers which is why I advise against it.
