Do weeds spread or spawn?

I have not weed out my island, because I like the weeds. They are nice looking plants, and without them, the terrain would look flat, and less interesting. So I'm keeping them. I can also say with some level of certainty that they have not reproduced/spread. It might have to do with the fact that my island is already full of them since I first landed on it about 10 days ago.

But what about you? Did you see them spread or spawn on your island? How do they behave?
 
I had to weed my town in order to complete the “main story” but I love the love of weeds. I might keep them in the future depending on whether or not they add Jacob’s Ladder
 
You can always let the weeds grow, after you have completed the "main story" mode. They'll all come back, if you just leave them.
 
I've removed all weeds, I'm pretty sure they spawn because I've been seeing them b pop up one by one randomly

I love the weeds too honestly, I've saved quite a few bags of them just to use them to decorate later on
 
I do like the little clovers, but the rest I remove. If it'll affect possible Jacob's Ladder to spawn later, I'll remove them all.
 
I don't know if they spread or not, but I can confirm they randomly spawn. I have a weed-free island and I get a few randomly spawn around each day.
