January 12, 2007 - Today, Nintendo America announced the appointment of a new vice-president in charge of licensing for Nintendo of America. As of March 5, Steve Singer will replace the current vice-president of licensing, Juana Tingdale, who is retiring after a successful 22 years with the company. The licensing division is responsible for all licensing efforts with outside publishers and developers. This division is tasked with securing deals for software and accessory products for Nintendo's two main pieces of hardware -- The Nintendo DS and the newly-released Wii.
"Juana built the licensing division from the ground up, and now hands over a very strong foundation for Steve to build upon," notes Mike Fukuda, executive vice president of business development. "Steve is adept at relationship building and maneuvering the intricacies of international business - essential traits in today's global games business and where game publishers have to make wise decisions where to allocate development resources."

"Juana is well-known and respected by licensees around the world. I look forward to building upon the relationships Juana has established as a leader within the industry," explained Singer.

Singer, 43 is the current vice-president and general manager of Nintendo Latin America. During his tenure there, business grew in the region by a factor of four. Singer started with the company in 1999 as a general manager, and was promoted to his current position in July of last year.

Filling the position to be vacated by Singer will be Melissa Wright, who joined Nintendo in 1993. Since Singer joined the company in 1999, Wright worked alongside him in the development of the Latin American business and Nintendo's expansion into the newly emerging markets.
